That isn't true at all. People "who have played WoW" have always come to this game, even before its last 3 expansions. This game has always been 50% current or former WoW players. People have always said this about people from WoW, but it's not just people from WoW but people from FFXI and other games such as League of Legends. I would argue it was worse in ARR and got better over time, especially after the rules were changed to remove loopholes so now just vaguely "being rude" can be reported.

I can't argue with you, I have played FF14 for a long time but mostly I play at the beginning of an expansion, level up to max level on the few classes I enjoy and only keep up with the story. I mostly was a solo player for the story. It wasn't until Shadowbringers that I really sat and played socially and tried to do content. That being said, in all my time leveling up and doing dungeons since 2016 I rarely ever had an experience or heard of experiences like this. Since the game blew up it's been far more regular. And most of the players that came to FF14 from what I understand were from WoW (Based on information I've seen posted on forums, from my experience ALSO playing WoW, and watching streamers and their chat talk about their experiences moving from WoW).

That being said, LoL players are Toxic AF. I played that game, and it was always people telling me I should get cancer lol. If they went from LoL -> FFXIV I can definitely see them acting like this.

The game "blowing up" happened in stages. Every expansion added an additional 200,000 consistently active players (these may be different people returning who replace someone who is taking a break).

I've never played WoW, but this is what I noticed. WoW started to go wrong in 2016 or earlier and although most people brushed it off, some people saw the signs immediately and switched to this game. Their 2018 expansion was the last straw for a lot of people and it began to bleed players heavily from 2018 onwards. Some of them went back for the 2020 expansion which confirmed to them that they were done. The people leaving had only played it several years, so it was easier for them to leave. The 15-year vets would never leave. Then the streaming thing happened and the bad PR happened which was the push that made 15-year vets leave. Many of those people came to this game, but it was a gradual process that had been happening for many years in stages.

That being said, LoL players are Toxic AF.

One of the things you might have noticed is how players have gradually started to say "gg" after a dungeon and they didn't used to say that. That shows how many of the people playing now are used to games that are not an MMO.

I try and stick with either my FC or friends I have made in several other groups. For leveling/MSQ I used the NPCs... I can go at my own pace, nobody does jerk things like not putting on tank stance (had a fight with PF folks and most of the fights I had the boss constantly on me, even got a tank buster (as a dps). The NPCs rarely do mechanics incorrectly. Yes, it can take a bunch of wipes on certain bosses, but I never exceeded the 90 min limit. You don't have to study up on the mechs beforehand because you have the leeway of going down a few times using the NPCs. You also get to get all the loot, I am somewhat disabled and can't jump on a chest, pick my option because everyone else is about to start on the next boss/trash.

You can file a report for harassment and they do act on reports .it is not wow where you can get away with insults

Been away for a year. Came back and forgot to put the soul crystal into the slot. Didn't even think about it since I don't play this dps version often. Some bottom dwellers noticed it immediately.

Well that is enough for me. Why pay to play with slime? I can't even find them to add them to a blacklist so I won't have to party up again. Why pay an online sub for this?

Sorry you had to experience that, and whilst I absolutely do NOT condone their behaviour, I do still need to ask (since it isn't clear from your post) - did you explain the situation to them?

I mean, some players play that way deliberately. I've only encountered it once myself - a level 81 Archer who refused to equip their Soul Crystal; they LOVED the bow-and-arrow style gameplay but the whole 'Bard' thing wasn't to their taste.
Again, the behaviour directed toward you was unacceptable but I'd have to concede that its possible they thought you were one of 'those' players. And that doesn't make it right either but nonetheless...

I have heard this before (and even more than once, and always with bard/archer), and the confusion on that is mostly because of the bards at the plazas making music. They think that this music making is the bard, even though thats a completely seperated feature.

I think that they should implement a soul crystal requirement for any duty beyond 50 to avoid any confusion or griefing options here (below 50 its excusable, and still well doable without, but by the time you finished post ARR you realy should at least have done the job quests up to lvl 30).

I can relate to liking the bow-and-arrow and not the music part, but the truth is that Bard still feels mostly like a bow-and-arrow job and you barely notice there is music involved when even the music is an attack.

Ninja is where I could understand it better. The idea of a Rogue and the Rogue gameplay is fun and Ninja transforms the job completely and makes an otherwise relaxing Rogue rotation much more distracting. A lot of people feel that way about Rogue.
