    Dragoon 7.0 Ideas

    These are my ideas for 7.0 Dragoon, based on an interesting dream I had. I hope you like reading them!

    Soaring Stance

    At level 91, Dragoons obtain an oGCD ability called "Soaring Stance".

    All normal combo skills transform into alternative versions that gap-close to the same distance as normal jumps.

    Damage output of these skills are not changed with the exception of while Life of the Dragon is active. While Life of the Dragon is active, the Soaring Stance skills gain a significant damage output increase.

    Over the different levels from 91 to 100, different skills transform while under Soaring Stance.

    Piercing Talon transforms uniquely, and repels the Dragoon from the targeted enemy.

    Life Surge becomes Lifeblood Bonds and takes on a new animation/absorbs much more HP. It is meant to represent new kinship with the dragons.

    All Jumps get soaring stance color and damage variations while under Life of the Dragon.


    The color theme of Soaring Stance is silver("White Hot" as if imbued with the sun itself), so all skills gain a silver color in a fashion from it.


    Animation Lock?

    Dragoon's Soaring Stance GCD skills do not have significant animation lock and should function regularly, aside from the addition of consistently gap-closing.

    Too Strong?

    Lore-wise, Dragoon has always been able to chase after their prey relentlessly. I do not believe it would be too strong, as long as the gap-closing/pushback presents considerable risk(running into AoEs, as an example). Dragoon being the most mobile melee would make for an interesting identity.


    Other Changes I'd Like To See

    Make Chaos Thrust's DoT 1 second longer.

    Second Elusive Jump charge.

    one thing that I am certain for the future DRG Rotation is that you can kiss Life Surge good bye, it may be reworked into a potency buff to some weaponskill

    I genuinely cannot think of a single thing I want changed about DRG right now. I'm looking at the skills on my other screen, they all have their place, they all flow nicely, the job has a good oGCD game going on, I just don't really know what could be done that doesn't detract from the job. Maybe Dragon Sight is kind of pointless but it's at least a bit more interesting than a generic raid wide like Litany. Lance Charge kind of just exists, but lots of jobs have damage up personals. Life Surge maybe? But why remove something that isn't broken.

    Honestly I dread logging in the day of 7.0 and seeing my hotbar as barren as Summoner's was with Endwalker.

    The only thing off with DRG imo is that job fantasy isnt really fullfilled. Mechanically the job works perfectly fine and is enjoyable.

    10 years ago DRG was somewhat unique with its gap closing jumps which at the time only MNK had as well, however the game has changed a lot since then and the vast majority of jobs have tons of gapclosers now, even the tanks and some of the ranged dps and healers.

    In that regard jumps arent special anymore and DRG has lost its niche. What has made me realize that was playing DRG in PVP where it feels extremely mobile and the Sky dive mechanic (you go into the air and can move around while flying) is extremely unique. You really feel like a DRG much more than its PVE iteration in terms of class fantasy.

    If we are talking about a full rework, my dream scenario would be for them to implement the skydive mechanic into PVE jumps to make them special again compared to your average gapcloser of other jobs.

    Life surge will definitely go away and I feel like they are going to tinker with fang/wheeling combo. Probably split them up so they are not back to back positionals. Not really sure what else they could do for a "rework" unless they plan to completely change the job entirely, which imo would be stupid. For the most part its the most well designed job in the game.

    I wrote it in another post, but there is one think i think is really odd with Dragon compared to other melees : the Dragon got two rotations which are not linked : the gcd rotation with a full loop of 10 gcd and one ogcd, and the full ogcd play with jump, mirage dive and geirskogul. It was a huge thing in HW because of how geir worked, a tiny thing in SB and gone since ShB.

    It's also annying we cannot go dragon life for the opener, dragon sight was a thing in SB for it's shorter cd, but now where nearly all targeted offensive buff are gone (remains dancer and Astro), and considering they get rid away from distances constraints, it's an ability with few flavor.

    I think there is some reaper's core concept which can be reused to the Dragon, like having Dragon's life being a skill revamp phase with Stardiver being a gcd with huge power (something like this would also solve the big animation lock issue of Stardiver).

    I have a feeling Spineshatter Dive will get reworked to have Elusive Jump>Piercing Talon>SSDive mech sort of in the same vein as what Sam/Rpr have to free up some oGCD usage from it's regular rotation and to add new abilities . I personally wouldn't mind if Dragon Sight was a set it and forget ability like Dance Partner/Kardia and maybe actives with Battle Litany or whatever . I also think Dragonfire Dive needs some sort of rework so it can be used more often under certain conditions , maybe switch it with Sonic Thrust so Drg can have better Aoe earlier on with DfD being a buildup ability akin to hellfrog medium and ninki
