Housing purchase issue

First community, please don't yell at me for bidding on lots on 2 separate characters on the same world, I did not realize you couldn't do this. I sent this bug in and only received a working as intended response and that I should "ask the community". Since you can't win lots on 2 different characters on the same world, this is not working as intended. That being said, I'm cut/pasting my bug report with the hopes for constructive assistance from the community. I only omitted the plot for this post:

Steps:
1. I was allowed to bid on plots on 2 different characters on the same world.
2. At end of period it said I won both. Clicking confirm brought up the error that I cannot have 2 plots on the same world on different characters from same account. I had confirmed purchase of a different plot on a different character first.
3. It does not return my bid
4. So, I was allowed to bid, even though apparently I was not supposed to be allowed to bid. I won the lottery, even though I apparently should not have won the lottery. I now cannot claim the lot or get my money back.

I submitted this in game and only received a working as intended response. So what is working as intended? I can't have two plots, but it's intended to allow me to bid and take my money? Or it's working as intended not to return my money after it says I won but can't have it? This is obviously not working as intended and I need more assist than this.

You can't own two private plots. You can bid on more than one with multiple characters but can only confirm the purchase with one. The other bid amount is lost completely if I'm not mistaken.

Some will use multiple characters to bid on the same plot to increase their chances of winning but an account can only own one private house per server so once you confirmed the one it would be impossible to confirm the second.

It is possible to own a FC house and a private house with two different characters or the same character for that matter.

Exactly right. You can't accept ownership of multiple personals on the same server. There is no restriction on multiple bids. Ex. 8 alts bid, accept the best plot.

Post above is incorrect, you can retrieve 50% of your gil from the plot you don't accept after the results period has concluded.

You can bid on as many alts as you like, you can only collect on one. The others you bid on lose 50% of the gil.

If you are 100% sure you didn't get the 50% back open a support ticket before the next round starts. Don't rely on the forums.

Source: I tried it on Materia in July to verify this is how it worked, accepted a medium win on main and lost 50% of a small I couldn't take on alt. But I did get the (50%) 1.5 million back.

You're allowed to own one personal house per world per account.

Each character is allowed to make one entry per lottery period. This is so players can try to get a personal house while also helping their FC to get a house in the same lottery period but it can also be done on all personal houses or on all FC houses.

If you fail or are unable to claim a house you won, you forfeit 50% of the "deposit" made when you entered on that plot. The remainder may be claimed after the results period for that specific lottery period has ended.

What most players do in the case of personal houses is place all their bids on the same house, not different houses. That acts as a deterrent to others who might consider bidding on that house and allows them to get full refunds on all the losing entries. In your case, you choose to bid on different houses and ended up winning both so you're going to forfeit 50% of what you deposited for the one you can't claim.

You should be able to claim your partial refund now on the house you can't claim since the new lottery period has started. You have up to 90 days to claim it.

Somewhat related question: If you see the message preventing you from finalizing a winning bid due to an alt already owning a house, could you relinquish the old house on the alt and then go back and finalize the winning bid on the other character within the same claim period?

You should be able to. There was a player a month or two back that had an error when trying to relocate their house. They ended up relinquishing the old plot then purchasing the plot they had won. I doubt it would work much differently if there are 2 characters involved as long as the existing house was relinquished before the new one is purchased.
