I'm sorry, why are we mad that smallscale pvp after years of neglect finally gets serious love from the developers? Is this another thing of "I don't want it therefore nobody is supposed to have it" ideology I keep seeing by players who think "your content doesn't deserve dev time because of <x>" like as if we are fighting for scraps at the table?
Smallscale pvp has never been more accessible to the average player who simply wanted to try. It is not perfect by any means and the changes are hit or miss at times, but why are being mad at Crystalline Conflict being updated? Objectively speaking it is good that it gets what it gets, even if it badly needs QoL on certain jobs, maps, reward structures etc, but it is infinitely more than the nothing-burger that was the Feast era where they randomly do some adjustments and leave jobs into the dust for seasons.
Seriously, get over your narrow-minded viewpoints, every mode in this game deserves love, not just your favourite.
Since I am unsure which modes in particular you mean, allow me to take an educated guess.
If you mean The Feast, the only sane reasons I can give you are the following:
- funneling players into their flagship smallscale mode for more playing data
- limited resources dedicating to multiple small scale modes for now until more commitment is allowed internally
- the genuine difficulty to balance two fundamentally different gamemodes with a revamp in skillsets that are designed around the removal of role restrictions and a fast time-to-kill, something that would make The Feast extremely frustrating
I am not in the least surprised Feast is taken off the roster given how different it is from CC and how much you'd need to adjust the mode's rules. I'd love a version of it coming back though.
For the second mode I am unsure which you mean. If you meant Rival Wings being gone temporarily, this was obviously necessary due to the new damage tuning, but that mode has been on life support since forever because Square Enix does not seem to get the memo that having multiple large scale modes competiting for player participation and one having an additional incentive (Daily Challenge), it will obviously work in favour for Frontlines.
If you mean The Fold from way back, I can't give any insight on that one as i haven't played it.
That said, I am a lover for small-scale as much as the next guy, but unless you make them share the queue pool, like "Small-Scale PvP (5v5)" containing both Feast and CC, you will have once again a divergence of player participation that is already heavily split because of Frontlines and Rival Wings.
If this was a PvP centric game, this would still work as general player participation would be proportionally heavy on PvP, alas it is not a PvP centric game so we have to make due with the amount of players we have and encourage participation in the limited modes that we have.
I mean, skill revamps since 4.0 never took FL or RW into account unless it was something truly gamebreaking. This is normal if you create a game system with an intended primary mode (The Feast / Crystalline Conflict) to base your balancing attempt around. It is not that they have forgotten, this is intentional.
For example, to create separate skill sets entirely for two different modes would basically require an additional PvP skill module exclusive to large-scale, which would require even more delicate framework adjustments to implement them. The result would also be that you'd have two entirely different skillsets to learn if you go with this option. This would create a lot of design redundancy.
That said, it is not like FL/RW are unplayable, it is more-so that they need QoL in other aspect of them, arguably even some map adjustments. They did introduce the damage reductions to large-scale for a reason, even if the numbers are a bit off the mark.
Yes, it's various degrees of unplayable. Even if you've never set foot in FL you still should be able to imagine how a gameplay based around abundant cc and oneshot levels of damage would function in a 72 man mode.
The old pvp didn't have such issues as far as I remember.
Old pvp was great. Bring that back!
Let the small scale shit die. Even BLIZZARD the very devil of games development admits their arenas were a mistake and FF14 wants to walk down the same path.
I cannot imagine a more stupid decision.
please tell me this is a regular map with no arena hazards
