This isn't fraud, nor is it griefing.

It *is* kind of a rude thing to do. Let's break it down a bit, though.

Typically, at least in my personal experience, fraud in MMOs is having an agreement for a trade and one party either delivering a dummy item or otherwise not holding to their end of a bargain made. For example, lets say two items have the same icon. One of these two items is incredibly rare and in high demand, the other is unremarkable and incredibly common. You agree to purchase the rare item directly from Player A, but when the trade occurs, Player A swaps in the common item. Player B in that scenario is the victim of fraud.

Unless the party finder specifically said "I, the GNB, have my 635 weapon and if it drops it will be free roll", no one in the party was defrauded.

A player deciding to trash (which is lame) an item to roll need on one that dropped isn't griefing anybody. This is something I'll do in dungeons, though I desynth the item rather than trash it. Would I do it with on-content BiS weapons? No. That's why it's rude for the player to have done.

Being able to roll need over being able to roll greed is just how the game goes. If someone else in the party wanted the gunblade, they should gear and play GNB.

Validity of current TOS standings or not, that is just a 100% scumbag move and is absolutely unacceptable given the nature of current tier Savage, especially the difficulty of P8S.

    This should be definitely adressed.

The game stops you from rolling "need" on pieces of equipment you already possess. Going to the extent of swapping weapon, deleting yours just to roll need and deny it to 7 other players is griefing.
this is the same thing as deleting an item from the loot table like it never dropped in the first place since no one benefits from it and was done intentionally to screw over other players, the person admitted to it.
This obviously cannot be compared to a dungeon where you can desynth or trade gear for GC seals so you get some value from it and this is farmable content whereas in party finder you can take up to 2 months to get a single weapon thanks to the weekly and looting system. It took me 7 weeks just to get my main DPS weapon since I play solely in party finder.

I said this was a complaint/suggestion thread for a reason, "this is how the game does" to justify toxic/griefing behavior just shows how badly people accept these types of behavior when it can be changed from adding a single line of text in prohibited activities.
Here are the chat logs for more "context" and to show people wanted the weapon.

The GNB after looting the weapon :

Also, this has to be the WORST take I have ever read when it comes to gearing, this is a game that promotes being able to play and gear multiple jobs and if every player chose to grief loot then what's the point of a random weapon dropping in coffers?
i'm an omnijob player and I usually fill whatever a pf needs to go in raid faster or to help/reclear with friends (i'm main MNK + GNB), if I can cross a line on a random weapon on P8S just because someone decides no one will have it even tho he already possesses it, then what's the point ?

Tell us when we'll be able to play several jobs at the same time. Ty.

I dont want to say that I dont believe you.

But I dont believe you. Please show a screenshot of the chat this happened and blur out the names. This sounds stupidly comical for it to be real.

Post the entire chat. You aren’t showing where he did it just to get the item and admitted it. If he did you can report this as actions taken to impede gameplay for others. It’s a catch all for a reason.

There's a thread on twitter, too, even though the person who tweeted it gave the wrong context it gained some traction (around ~500 likes)
I have chat logs from above your reply, and more from discord where he admits to it and is proud of it (wont name which discord) he was trying to justify his act by "no one plays gnb" which is untrue

We already reported him, and GMs have logs for deleted/looted items and such so if it's bannable there hopefully will be actions

One time in Orbonne, the casting coat dropped and this ranged dude in our party started begging for it. I was on my caster at the time, but I already had it so I just passed on it. This other guy in our group, a RDM, was like "bro that thing ugly af" and then he rolled need anyway and basically told the ranged guy that he was probably gonna turn it into grand company seals or desynth it. Totally fair, but still a dick move lol. Like, to this day I think about that. Why even tell him that. At least just pretend that you like the coat, lol. Or don't say anything when you roll.

idk, I don't get these kinds of people. Also feels like a slap in the face that these people can be open assholes but if I ask the two tanks what the HELL they're doing and why I have aggro as a red mage, I'll get reported for being toxic

lmao @ people doubting that someone could be a petty asshole in ff14 and then op just comes in with immediate receipts. unfathomably based

Is there a way to edit? Also I’m surprised this even works. Loot eligibility is determined when the chest is opened why would deleting and item suddenly let you roll? Seems like bad programming.

Just going to point out your screenshot has mods in it, which is bannable. Should you get reported too for violating the TOS?
