    30 Minutes Is Not Enough

I recently moved to Dynamis due to the housing crisis. Prior to joining Dynamis I would join Frontline daily for the EXP boost and to work on my PVP rewards. Previously only taking 5 to 10 minutes to join.

However, since moving I have been met hours of waiting and only once have successfully joined a FL. I understand Dynamis is a new DataCenter and it may be some time before players routinely join PVP. I'm also okay if players on the server do not want to play PVP or waiting 1-2 hours for a queue. What I'm not okay with is the 30m cap on wait time estimates:

30 minutes is not enough. Especially for newer data centers. I'm sure there are many players on Dynamis, and other data centers, that enjoy PVP or other content that isn't as popular. However, many players when faced with a "More than 30m" queue will not bother since there is no way to gauge if anyone else is even queuing with you.

Is there anyway for SE to increase the cap or, even better, provide an estimate of how many players are in queue - similar to other Daily Roulettes? Just having a way to know if others are in queue with you by either increasing the cap or providing a number of players in queue with you would significantly improve participation in less popular content.

Until the situation is resolved, I have no other option than to use Data Center Transfer to join a daily PVP roulette. A feature that was never intended for heavy use. I'm sure one day FFXIV will lose players as the game ages out. Why wait until then when it can benefit players now?

Cap on average wait time isn't the issue I see. The issue I see is the number to the left of it.

Having cross-data-center queues would resolve these sorts of issues entirely, but who knows when/if that will ever happen.

In the meantime, the only options we have are visit other data centers to queue there, or wait for an eternity.

This is really, really necessary at this point. It makes me wonder if DC travel is harming Dynamis more than it's helping with how things are currently.

I've done what I can to help activity on my DC, but I worry that the DC itself may simply become a hub for housing and other activities that can't be done off DC, while roulettes, duties in general and shopping is done while travelling to other DCs.

So... is this implying that DC Travel is actually bad for a new DC in the long term? Kind of makes me look at Materia which is in the exact opposite position ATM. I read all the posts asking for cross-region so that it can flourish... but the reality is that aside from buying up the houses, there's not as much incentive to move away from a long-standing DC to a new one.

Hard to compare us to Materia when Materia is the only Oceanic DC. Not to mention we're a NA DC, perhaps the group you'd expect the most from outside of the Japanese.

Materia is on its own and has issues with getting people to move over.

I guess this leads up to another question. Is the FFXIV userbase a bit stale? That would explain the difficulty in getting people to move over. People are tied down, set in their ways.

I think that's typical of any group, not just XIV players. Again, we're late in a patch cycle. A lot of accounts are dormant. I think things will pick up by the end of the year.

FFXIV really needs to have cross-DC parties and queues. There’s simply no excuse. They destroyed queues in smaller data centers by encouraging everyone to transfer to play, making queues even worse until they’re dead. And it’s not just Dynamis. Party Finder on Crystal is almost entirely devoid of high-end content, while Aether has more listed parties than Crystal and Primal combined. In Japan, the Mana datacenter has 10x the amount of listed parties as every other DC in the region.

Either they need to converge datacenters entirely like every other major online game, or they need to take down DC travel until they do so. I know that FFXIV is an aging game owned by a small company in financial duress, but come on. Even WoW doesn’t have this problem and it’s 18 years old.

Surprised this game doesn't have cross DC grouping yet. At least for those on the same continent.

If someone was part of any kind of organized activity, such as a raid static or a more casual group that gets together to run content, they're likely still returning to their old data center to hang out with friends.

The last time a new data center was added in North America, they moved existing worlds onto it instead of just adding new ones.
