A job that nobody talks about but that everyone is afraid of

Is it a chance, that you are a Reaper?

    Why so angry?

    Why so impatient?

We don't need anything right now. Stop for a while. Put your scythe down. Sit down next to me. Relax and let's talk about something pleasant.

    Take your time.

Nothing is chasing us. We have all the time in the universe.

Do you like sound of ocean?

    Let's listen to it together

    Do you like fishing?

Fishing sounds so nice. You cast. You wait. You take.

You never know when fish will catch, and what you get. You spend your time mainly on preparing and waiting. Likely most of that waiting. But the emotion. This short burst of excitement and fulfillment in fighting and getting your fish is the greatest payoff of all.

But what we do with fishes? Yes. We can eat them or disenchant them into valuable resources. Of course. But what if there is another way to use their strength?

    Have you heard of Fishmasters?

    How they work?

Much different than your current job. Normally you equip your weapon and armor and these gives your stats. In case of Fishmaster, you do not equip armor or weapons.

    You equip your fishes.

Is it a chance that you did play Final Fantasy 8? If you know about junction system, you know how Fishmaster works. Every fish in game is contributting to one of your stats. Some fishes raises your vitality, other strength. Some fishes give you some special trait or buff. Like immunity to some debuffs, push effects, etc. You don't equip one fish. You equip a stack of fishes in a convenient for you inventory slot. The more fishes you have, the bigger influence on stat and effect.

There is one important thing. When you get hit, you do not loose your HP. Truth be told. you are always 1 hit to KO. But your fishes are your shield. When you get hit, you loose some of equiped fishes. As long as you are wearing at least one fish, you will not lose HP.

    What about attacking?

Your attacks depends on equiped stack on fish in your weapon slot. But, as fisher, you cast your attack, cast time is random. The same about damage you deal. If you are lucky, you can defeat a ultimate boss in one hit, but there is a chance that you will do no damage at all. This is way of Fishmaster's life.

    Job quests?

You get exp in the same way as any other battle jobs. You start at level 1 and finish at level 100. Your levels do not increase your stats, but every 5 levels you get a job quest.

When you will become a proud 5-level Fisherman you will meet your fisher, Roegadyn friend. In this quest, you will go with him to some fishing spot and you will accompany him when he will do fishing. It will be 2 hours and 30 minutes unskippable cutscene (to break the guinness record of the longest cutscene in game). Mostly silent, ocean sound and idle camera. You can't do much during this cutscene. You still have chat available, but this is it.

At some random time your friend will ask you a some question or say something silly. Like "Did you know there is a device that raises the temperature of the water until it starts to boil?". Not frequently. Mostly 2 - 3 times during whole cutscene.

After that time, your friend thanks you and you come home.

Every next job quest is nearly the same. Only locations are changing, but scenario is exactly the same.

Things are changing at 100-th level

After whole 50 hours of unskippable ocean sound you have your payoff.

At start, everything looks the same. You meet your Roegadyn friend. Together you go to some beautifull fishing spot, and cutscene is starting. At some point, something strange is happening.

    You hear a voice.

    Very angry voice.

The whole world become black. Everything dissapears. You feel a light behind you. You turn and see the God of Final Fantasy XIV before you. Yes. It is who you think it is. It's him. And it's not "the Rising" event. He is not to thank you.

That kind of player like you should not exists in game like this. It is impossible to have a player that is so patient. Player who gives himself time. Player who doesn't care about complex rotations and balance. a player who only enjoys the moment.

You are an error, and you need to be erased.

    It's time to battle

And it is a long battle. Who can defeat WoL?

You can now change music, to something more fitting

You fight with every boss from Final Fantasy series. Start from I and finish on XV. One after another. You fight Chaos, Emperor, Zeromus, Exdeath and Neoxdeth, Ultimecia with all her all transformations... Every Boss. Every Phase. Every one (every one with own mechanics, and remix music, with is nice).

If you get defeated, you are naked. If you want start again, you need to prepair and start again.

What next? What when there is no more last Final Fantasy boss?

Oh, he was stupid. Last bossess never was trully difficult. The real challenge starts now. Now he start to throw at you the Final Fantasy Super Bossess. You fight War Mech, Omega, Shinryu, FF7's Weapons, Yazmat. Every one of them. You need to defeat them in a row (still every one of them has nice music, so it's still nice). If you don't, you start everything from beginning.

But you beat them. You are tired. He is tired. What now?

There is only one logical conclusion.

Why he was so stupid? Of course you would defeat them. You are at max level and you are prepared for everything. So if there is one thing that can destroy you, it is something that you could not prepare for.

He is calling on, last enemy. It's last boss from unrealased yet expansion. Expansion that we will not see in next 16 yeats. Boss from Final Fantasy XIV 14.0. You are underleveled about 80 levels.

It is huge. It's epic. Quality of this boss model is so high, it raises the temperature of your graphics card to that of boiling water. The music is so perfect, you start to cry.

Because it's unreleased boss, it has simple, placeholder name XIV.0

    It's perfect Final Boss.

You fight for hours. Your hands are tired. You want go to sleep. You started this quest at 8pm, now it's 2am. It's madness.

    But you did it.

    You defeated him.

The white, warm light engulfs you.

You heard subtle, soft voice in your ear "maybe you are not an error at all".

The white light fades, you hear a ocean again, and you are sitting with your Roegdyn friend, as if nothing had happened.

"I think that's all for today." he says, he gets up and walks away.

You just sitting there for little longer. But you feel something has changed. You look above your head and you see your reward for this whole adventure.

    New title.

Thanks for reading, hope you like my art xD

That was a fun read. At first I thought this was a "The rest of the forum is angry...rest here and relax" post. Your art is very nice. Do you do commissions?

I guess this is a better use of the resource than turning all the fish in the sea into sand.

I heard when you die as a Fishmaster you get a unique animation and your character turns into a pile of fine sand.

I like the art. Unique job concept. I like.
