This is the core issue, yes. If you're wanting to join a PF on like... I dunno, week 10 and you're trying to go in with pure crafted gear, you're probably going to get kicked if it's anything but first floor. Organized groups obviously clear with crafted gear without issues, but PF groups...?
I dont even raid, yet, its super annoying to be capped like that... Ive always said divide caps per role (tome/savage) or at least change it so we only need the cap tome to unlock a slot, but let us buy further pieces with the uncapped ones....
It just sucks to have to buy crafted or wait for weeks as you just cant progress no matter how much you wanna play.
If you start like that, most ppl clear savage on pentamelded crafted gear so theres no need for any other gear at all as the new tier drops and ppl just get the new set.
(thats an overblown statement but still)
Some just enjoy to collect and even out gear and it literally doesnt matter if i got one or 19 jobs on cap level as i can only play one at a time anyways...
I used to be at your position, even going as beyond feeling self conscious about it due to seeing friends going higher ilevel than me, till I realize its mindless & pointless to adopt that sort of mentality as it feeds further dissatisfaction with the game altogether.
I can assure you, at the end of the day all gear becomes obsolete as it always has at the end of every patch, besides, i assume most people like engaging on savage due to glamor, likes the difficulty/adrenaline drive, or gearing up altogether & there’s nothing wrong with that.
While also ilevel isn’t “endgame” for ffxiv like it is for WoW & gearing with low ilevel isn’t as shunned greatly as it by the vast community since 90% of the content you do with the public is roulettes, maps, deep dungeons etc.. with gear scaling for everyone and/or everyone having different ilevel gear but still effectively conduct & follow mechanics.
Yes gearing through tomes is slow but also a wonder & its an option for you to follow altogether or give yourself a break from the game; hence why i embrace this game’s philosophy with general sorts being optional & encourages you to take a break from it too.
Glad I left WoW to feel relief at this approach, I love ffxiv even more
I have all 19 jobs at 90 and have no issue gearing them between updates. Its all Crit Determination and Direct Hit no matter where i look so its not like a need a gear set for every job :/ im not a savage raider or ultimate farmer but i dont have a job thats below IL 643 and im just casually rouletting and doing the occasional ex or savage i like
I wish they would make high end gear unrecyclable and untradable for gils/seals.
That way, they could have us buy gear licenses/permits with the tomestones/books, and we could go to an NPC with it that works like Tataru AF gear : if you have the permit for say savage legs of this tier that you bought for 8 books, you can get any savage leg you want for free to that NPC (hence the necessity to make them untradable)
That way, it'd take the same time as it does now to gear your main, but automatically you would be able to gear any job like your main. And you'd have to get a bit more licenses if your main job gear split between Savage / tomestones is not the same for all the jobs you want to gear (for instance, you don't need savage legs as a caster but you do on your tanks, you go get a leg permit but that's it, you already have the torso permit for instance and can take tank torso directly)
