Problem with gearing a 2nd job let a lone more.

You have 19 Combat jobs in this game, 4 roles, and 1 Alternate Job and you allowed 1 character to switch between anyone of them by just replacing 1 piece of gear.

YET, it literally takes 2-3 months CONSERVATIVELY to just gear 1 of these jobs with the max ilvl gear IF you're able to clear the latest Savage within the first 4 weeks of the content being released. Not to mention the randomness of gear drops in our case of getting 12 Necklaces in only 8 P5s runs and only 1 Bracelet........

So what am I literally left to do to try and gear my alt jobs? Yes I can buy Tombstone gear, but can't upgrade the right side without clearing P6s 4x or being the lucky person to get a Shine from 7 other people, and cannot upgrade with left side without killing the 3rd boss in the raid when the 2nd one was dropping 630 armor pieces........ I don't know why you insisted on putting the Shine on the 2nd boss when the first boss is what drops 630 accessories. You should of just made a different upgrade component for Boots/Gloves/Helm then is required for Legs and Chest, BUT I digress!

I literally sit here Causality capped with absolutely nothing to do and don't even bother logging on again until Tuesday when the raid resets for another chance at trying to gear an alternate job. I'd really like to try and play other rolls for raids you know. Like I said 19 wonder jobs to chose from and 4 different roles and I'm STUCK with the one because gearing is so slow for other jobs. There are a 1000 ways to fix this issue without hurting balance or making it grindy or hardcore and I know you're smart enough to fix it, figure it out and implement So I am not going to waste my time writing downs ways you could improve the quality of life in this game and do your jobs for you. Instead I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't know people felt this way and use this as an opportunity to bring it to your attention.

bla bla something something it always been like this bla bla.

Raid tiers lasted 6 months. Now they last upwards of 8.

Efficient high end raiders go thru the content too fast hence the complaints.

Dev philosophy is most likely thus:

High end skilled raiders are a very low percentage of the player population, thus we can ignore their complaints.

Regular more casual peeps will most likely take the whole of the even numbered patch trying to clear the tier (or get close to it). They really need only the one class. Didn't plan to be on that class all the way through? Tough, you suffer for making a choice to switch.

It's always been the odd numbered patch that is the "catch up" (at least for the tome upgrade pieces) that will help groups gear up more to get more savage clears. There, we threw you a bone.

Then, 8 weeks or so before the next tier drops in the next even numbered patch, they unlock the savage tier so that everyone can farm up what they want to feel good about BiS for multiple jobs only at that point in time for the next patch to make it all irrelevant.

Any kind of change to let people get what they want faster risks people leaving sooner. Even tho they say "take a break if you want to", there is always the danger that if a player leaves they might not ever come back.

What is obsession with gearing up so many jobs with max iLevel gear when it is all obsolete in about 7-8 months anyway? What benefit would it serve even if you had it?

I've been there - I raided in ARR, HW, SB and ShB. I kept finding myself taking a break since "what's the point of playing the game if there's no gear to be earned?" Then I got off that treadmill and actually enjoyed the game.

unfortunately so many people just see an empty void (undergeared/non-BiS'd jobs) and have an irrational need to fill it to make themselves feel fulfilled. it's. not. necessary.

I dont even raid, yet, its super annoying to be capped like that... Ive always said divide caps per role (tome/savage) or at least change it so we only need the cap tome to unlock a slot, but let us buy further pieces with the uncapped ones....
It just sucks to have to buy crafted or wait for weeks as you just cant progress no matter how much you wanna play.

If you start like that, most ppl clear savage on pentamelded crafted gear so theres no need for any other gear at all as the new tier drops and ppl just get the new set.
(thats an overblown statement but still)

Some just enjoy to collect and even out gear and it literally doesnt matter if i got one or 19 jobs on cap level as i can only play one at a time anyways...

It's an MMO. The core conceit of the design is monkey brain like big numbers. It's irrelevant if the bigger numbers "matter," it's just something to do. Same with chasing achievements and stuff.

There's a ton of solutions to it being such a pain in the ass to gear multiple classes in a reasonable timeframe. IMO, the easiest would be to double tomestone cap after 4 weeks instead of waiting 8 damn months for the "catch-up" patch, and maybe add loot of some sort to criterion savage, since there's currently no reason to ever do savage more than once. Adding loot coffers to savage, set to personal loot style like normal raids (so the coffers always drop but you can only claim one per week), and maybe having all bosses in the area "share" the same loot pool for the purposes of claiming loot... might help a bit without having to rework baseline savage looting.

To be fair, who cares? Let them. If people want to try an alt job in Savage and want it to be BiS so it's on the same potential as their main, that's free content for SE without lifting a finger. Grinding mounts or glam or achievements are 100% unnecessary but nothing wrong with that either. Currently it doesn't keep the content alive at all, most people I know don't bother farming tomes for alts and just stopped playing outside of raid day. Even for one or two alts you'd never get the Twines this patch. Slap a crafted set on in 10 minutes and call it a day.

No one is saying hand gear over on a plate either. Taking a bit of time to gear a main is fine. They're just saying they'd like to be able to gear alt jobs in a realistic time frame after that.

Yet the question is, would people allow you to join with that set? Most likely you will get kicked for not reaching a certain ilvl.

I used to be at your position, even going as beyond feeling self conscious about it due to seeing friends going higher ilevel than me, till I realize its mindless & pointless to adopt that sort of mentality as it feeds further dissatisfaction with the game altogether.

I can assure you, at the end of the day all gear becomes obsolete as it always has at the end of every patch, besides, i assume most people like engaging on savage due to glamor, likes the difficulty/adrenaline drive, or gearing up altogether & there’s nothing wrong with that.

While also ilevel isn’t “endgame” for ffxiv like it is for WoW & gearing with low ilevel isn’t as shunned greatly as it by the vast community since 90% of the content you do with the public is roulettes, maps, deep dungeons etc.. with gear scaling for everyone and/or everyone having different ilevel gear but still effectively conduct & follow mechanics.

Yes gearing through tomes is slow but also a wonder & its an option for you to follow altogether or give yourself a break from the game; hence why i embrace this game’s philosophy with general sorts being optional & encourages you to take a break from it too.

Glad I left WoW to feel relief at this approach, I love ffxiv even more

This is the core issue, yes. If you're wanting to join a PF on like... I dunno, week 10 and you're trying to go in with pure crafted gear, you're probably going to get kicked if it's anything but first floor. Organized groups obviously clear with crafted gear without issues, but PF groups...?
