Constant Vulgarity in Public Chat. WHY is this allowed?

Personally from my own experience again maybe because of differences in servers but i came from wow where i had random players come up to my toons propasitioning and in chat forget it it was pretty common for players to spam chat with random achievement names adding "anal" to the front or back. But yeah i havent seen any of that here even though im sure it exists because its the internet.

Funnily enough, my experience with World Transfer on Balmung wasn't lewd in any way. Overly political though. And only in Ul'dah.

/shout chat barely exists in Zodiark apart from Limsa, and even then it dies almost as quickly as it starts.

Omg i hate political chat being brought in game. I was playing wow during the last presidential election and i cringed logging into my alliance toons. Wierd it was only the alliance chat not the horde but at least i had that piece of mind.

In Balmung...anything type of chat will come up at any time. Sadly sometimes it can get political in which I just do my push-ups/sit-ups/squats in silence until the topic changes again.

Balmung chat is basically Wild West Internet chat rooms...for better or worse. That's why I love Balmung.

Ugh, politics is the worst. Hearing Americans complain about one of the options they have for their bozo-in-chief, beats club spam for cringe. Not like one side would ever concede anything to the other, ever.

I wish I could turn it off. I'm getting blasted by political ads right now. Thank God tomorrow's Election Day so we should get a few months' reprieve before the 2024 election stuff starts up next year.

Just a couple of recent examples from the usual Shout chat advertisements:




A roleplay venue is one thing because that expands the in-game universe and builds upon lore. But sex tourism in a T-rated game? This stuff is advertised openly and brazenly, and not just from Balmungers. Most of these are cross-world venues with cross-DC clientele.

Combined with the growing modding community and it's clear that FFXIV is becoming less of a gameplay-focused MMO and more of a "Second Life"-esque social simulator.

Soo... fun fact. I helped make and worked at a bar in-game. The owner's since been too busy with real life to open it back up. But the whole point of it was so people could experience native Bozjan cuisine, with some dishes expanding on its history past "lol calamity maiden/lol invasion". :x I always try to expand on what little lore Hrothgars have, even if locally. The menu had a bit of a description, and whenever we served dishes we explained the lore behind them. If two different people came in and asked for the same item, we'd describe things a touch differently to keep immersion going, rather than using macros. Time-consuming, yes. But well worth it.

This is important to note. Because one of the venues I made by myself was a Hrothgar-themed bath house for a Linkshell. It's long since demolished (actually, most of what I used there got reused for a private bath for one of my friends, since Hrothgar communities in Zodiark are inexistant + it was in an apartment, NOT the best place to hold a venue xD). But I didn't want it to be used for ERP. I hold zero interest in it. Whether people used it for that is besides the point: where I was involved, there was no such thing, just pictures and conversations for the scenery. So have people used it for that purpose? Maybe, but I wasn't around nor did I see or engage in it.

And the whole thing was framed as us being in Bozja, in an ancient bath house that got revealed in the wake of its destruction. Set after Bozja got liberated and people were free to take a breather in some spaces. It literally was just for scenery, nothing more. (Also, other races were welcome, of course, there was just a lot of Hrothgar iconography, since, ya know... Bozja).

I never advertised it on Shout nor in public. Because I know what it looks like: A Hrothgar-centric bath house? "Prime furry degeneracy place". But I just love Hrothgars and wanted to expand on the very little we're given. I still do, in fact, I just wish there were more people around. Most Hrothgar I've met keep to themselves. I can't blame people for assuming it'd be a dirty space on the virtue of it being the internet alone. But on the topic of venues expanding on lore? I do want to do that, personally.

I'd love to have more people experience my decoration, my work and come to appreciate the race I enjoy more. But it easily gets conflated with sex tourism. Yeah I'm going to admit that is straight up too much and I think action could...or at least should...be taken against them.

Think you're thinking about it too hard my dude. If it's like what you said and people just want to "hey come and look at this awesome bath-house I decorated!", there wouldn't be a need for that 18+ tag.
