Honestly, as much as I love this game...this game's community (as nice as they are) is basically like if you took moonguard goldshire and made an ENTIRE game community out of it.

It's a pretty big culture shock for those who aren't used to it.

They are not all brothels. There is a lot of RP in the game and one of the top ways to generate the environment for it is to have a meal area like the Quicksand in Ul'dah or The Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa. These get recreated in housing areas. While other RP happens in the form of adventuring or something similar. But there was always a hidden section of the RP community that was into ERP.

Over time, that became less hidden. Balmung got locked and then World Visit released, so people who wanted to RP overflowed into other worlds and then just spread because they could visit back easily. Unfortunately, this overflow included the ERP so now it's everywhere. The game kept growing so we ended up with RP (and by extension ERP) everywhere. They are on all the data centers.

The ERP became more obvious with "18+" in the adverts always.

I don't run into a problem with it because I don't spend my time in places where people shout this such as Limsa Lominsa or Ul'dah. When I check Party Finder, I look at the specific category I'm interested in such as raids or trials. There is no reason to look at the Other category where all the RP adverts are.

If you do think it is vulgar, you should know that they won't do anything unless it's reported and that is pretty reasonable.

I too am kind of curious of what words are actually being said in those ads that makes it 'vulgar'.

The trouble with things related to sex is that sex is a VERY popular pastime in the world we live in and many both desire and demand it.

As the demand is there, there will always be those that will cater to them, hence the ads.

As the rpgers have won the right to advertise their events in the game, the caterers of things sexual will use that to push their 'ware's' so to speak as 'Role Play experiences'.

And the fact that there are more of them than ever now tells us that these clubs and events are VERY popular, otherwise people probably wouldn't be doing them. ;-)

So yeah, it is NOT going away anytime soon short of another ad ban by SE.

I personally don't give a hoot. So long as the erp is behind closed doors itself (I don't want to read about anyone performing on someone else, sorry) I appreciate the scrolling chat. Reminds me there's other players around.

And I've seen worse. Like "church" guilds in wow harboring actually nonces.
