error code 17

[rezmage]

hello. i keep having this error code (17) where ffxiv has to close when i go to edit my character after using a fantasia. the sound cuts out and then it has to exit. i had this error happen before and i uninstalled and reinstalled the whole game which seemed to fix my initial error (the same exact error code). now i am getting that same error code again since using a fantasia and logging out and trying to edit my character again. please assist thank you.

i did just transfer to maduin from faerie. my friend gifted me a fantasia to change races. i unequipped all my gear and logged out and logged back in. proceeded to edit my character and it gives me that error every time after a few seconds. final fantasy xiv has to close (17) or something similar to that. i thought reinstalling the game from scratch helped and it seemed to before i transferred to maduin and used the fantasia to re-edit my character.

i did a complete reinstall of ffxiv twice. the first time it seemed to fix getting the error. then a week later i was having the same error. reinstalled again after doing a few things i was told to do like check for updates and stuff. and that seemed to fix the error. then i adjusted my graphics options in game and it suddenly did the same error again. i rolled back what i did with the graphics in game and it seemed to work. since i transferred my character to maduin on the new dynamis data center, i have had to travel back to faerie to get better queue times. i did a roulette lvl 70 dungeon with some people. everything was fine. then we queued up for another roulette and while we were loading into sunken temple of qarn on the loading screen it gave me the same error. now i cannot even log back into the game because it keeps giving me that error and kicking me off the game while i am loading into sunken temple of qarn. i am so lost and don't know what to do to fix this.

Usually, we would advise reinstalling the game on your primary drive, as having it installed elsewhere can cause certain issues. When so many people struggle with this issue, isn't it something SE should look into regarding there software? I have to switch between laptop and desktop just to get through missions on my alt character :/

You might need to delete/move your Final Fantasy XIV folder(C: -> Users -> YOURWINDOWSNAME -> Documents -> MyGames), it's well documented in other forums. Sometimes there is a complication with OneDrive where you have to disable the "Save space" option within OneDrive. Simply moving the Folder and its contents to the desktop should suffice as a test. Using this method will cause you to lose your settings so be prepared to redo many things if have not backed up your character data recently (ALWAYS BACK UP).

PS: Reinstalling the game does NOT delete this folder necessarily, which is why the issue can persist past a reinstall. When reinstalling the game for issues such as this, always get a new version of the launcher and make sure you have either moved these config files, or deleted them if you are not concerned about losing your character settings locally.

my primary drive where windows is installed is not big enough to install ffxiv. i only have 72 gb of free space after windows and essential PC things. C drive is a 120 gb ssd. my D drive hdd is where i have to install most things. i am still getting this error randomly. i was in dravanian forelands and have encountered this error twice in that zone. i'm not sure if it is coincidence but the weather seemed to change and the error happened. i just got it as i was teleporting to doman enclave from ultima thule. i'm on maduin getting these errors. i have never had any problems like this before in 10 years of playing on two different computers and a ps4. right now i play it on a gaming computer alienware aurora r6 purchased in 2017 with an NVIDIA GTX 1080 (and i've played it on this since i bought the PC). i have updated everything. reinstalled twice. someone suggested some things which i did like transferring/backing up data folders. i even looked at another forum post from 2017 and followed the advice there. i'm at a loss as to what to do at this point and it's really disappointing. in doing things someone i know suggested, i have already had to redo all of my hotbars and hud. i do not want to have to do that again because it takes a long time to do that.

Can anyone help me with this problem? I have just reinstalled the game for a third time and it seems I cannot access lower level content without getting this error message 17 and the game having to exit. it just happened to me again while doing a 50/60/70/80 roulette that had me go into sunken temple of qarn, except i never loaded in the game crashed with that error. that same thing happened to me before. the game seems fine when i do more recent content such as shadowbringers and endwalker content. i have only had issues it seems when i enter into a lower level duty or in a lower level zone. but it also happens randomly it seems because i remember doing things like thousand malms of toto rak and the porta praetorium trial. it is extremely frustrating to not be able to play all of the content for some reason i do not have help understanding. this has been going on for weeks now and i don't seem to be getting the answers i need. can we open a ticket about it or something? i don't know how this works.
