    Crackpot Theory/Idea

You know how we've and a certain best cat boi have been messing around with time travel for the last two expansions? Well, what if this all leads to the consequence of Ultimecia, FF8 main antagonist and ruler of all time within that game' story to appear in FFXIV?

Obviously, not the version directly from FF8, but A VERSION exclusive to FFXIV that takes advantage of us messing with time to try and compress all of time and space using the Crystal Tower on the First in an attempt to rule all existing timelines all at once.

And in so doing, our world,G'raha's old timeline ravaged by the Eighth Umbral Calamity and the World of the Unsundered inhabited by the Ancients are all set on a collision course to collide and fuse with one another. And so, it falls to us and the heroes of the other two respective world's to stop Ultimecia before its too late!

Also, would be a prime opportunity to brinf back Gigi from the HW Mandraville quests and bring in Time Mage as a possible job class. :3

    Thoughts?

With how 7 Remake is going and how 8 HAD very interesting elements that was held back with game mechanics that worked against each other...I could see an 8 Remake being done in the same vein as 7. Time Compression just makes it work in its favor story wise. So perhaps getting in an 8 story quest even if it isn't a full expansion worth of story would probably help with creating a full on 8 Remake.

Time travel can be a difficult theme to handle as it can easily be done poorly.

World of Warcraft handled it so poorly in Cataclym and then based an entire expansion on it just to bring back old characters that were killed off. "Hey, how do we defeat this powerful dragon aspect that's infused with the blood of the Old Gods? I know, lets go back in time and take the item that has made him so powerful and use it against him in the present!" I preferred it when we were simply trying to stop some mysterious dragons from changing the past in order to destroy existence.

I much prefer how its done in FF14. Even though we don't know what we're doing, we're actually doing exactly what we're supposed to to complete the timeline.

I mean, they could introduce Ultimecia and have a time travel based storyline, but it needs to be done well. And as much as I love the little guy as Vivi was my favourite character in FF9, I don't think bringing back Gigi would be a good idea. People are already complaining about having to do Hildibrand for the relic, they'd be fuming if they needed to do it for the MSQ.

While I love FF7's story, the whole time ghosts thing and going against fate should have been something used kn a game like FF8, 9 or 10.

I'd love to see a prequel, sequel and an actual remake of FF8.

A promotion event in FFXIV would be great. I'd love to see Squall react to our version of the Gunblade. xD

Yeah, I wouldn't want to see FFXIV fall into the same kind of trouble WoW had with time travel. I also would just like this to be used as an excuse for us to be able to travel and fully explore both the World of the Unsundered and G'raha's timeline.

With the way Endwalker ended, the story has left the door to almost anything being able to happen now. So I hope we can eventually figure out a way to traverse time and space fully so we can visit those two worlds in full. :3

Plus, Ultimecia has yet to appear in the game as a boss yet. So far, we've seen Chaos from FF1, Gabranth (sort of) from FF12, Golbez from FF4, Exdeath from FF5, Cloud of Darkness (twice) from FF3 and Kefka from FF6. So having some sort of consequence for frequent time traveling, even though it was just to complete the timeline loop we and G'raha caused would be interesting. And I think Ultimecia appearing as a result could be a good idea.

And with the whole Gigi thing, olayers are already being forced to do all the Hildy quests anyways. So I kinda don't see Gigi coming back as a problem.

That'd be interesting. My only gripe is that time travel plots can backfire, but the boss's concept as a natural reaction to our actions is interesting. Especially if it evolves into having its own motivations. It'd also allow us to explore more esoteric areas as well, such as something inspired in Memoria from FF9 on the way to the boss, sort of as a nexus/amalgamation of all the moments in history crystallized in physical form. Perhaps it'd be a part of the Lifestream itself, allowing them to explain stuff like how aether and memories interact in further detail.

    Squall: "Maybe I'm a lion..."
FFXIV fanbase: "For 7€ you can be."

You know, it would be interesting if our version of Ultimecia turned out to be an Ancient that became obessesed with the concept of time travel and after somehow hearing of us and our doings in Elpis, could inspire her to somehow travel to our timeline. Like maybe crystalizing herself within the Lifestream and upon afrer the events of the second Final Days, wakes up and mskes her way over to the Mor Dhona and steals the device that would allow her to travel to the First and use its version of the Crystal Tower to create two parallel universes by traveling to both the World of the Unsundered and G'raha's timeline and linking those Crystal Towers located there with the one connected to the one that returned to the First.

And then by gathering a monstrous amount of aether from all three timelines, Ultimecia proceeds to try and "pull" all three timelines together, condensing them all into one and rejoining herself with her two other selves from each timeline. Thus creating a world where she rules "All of time" at once and the only way to stop her is by traveling to all three Crystal Towers located into this new dystopian world where the First, G'raha's timeline and the World pf the Unsundered are all stitched together into one big giant landmass of a new world.

Where are you getting this part of the idea from? There is no indication that the world of the ancients exists as a separate parallel timeline – it is simply the past of our own.

And we never took the Crystal Tower to Elpis, but travelled through a portal that somehow uses the time-travel device in a different way and does not require G'raha's approach of uprooting of the entire structure to travel inside it.

Also, the First's Crystal Tower (relocated from the future of the 8UE timeline) is the only one that possesses time travel capabilities. The present-day tower in Mor Dhona is a big aether battery with a voidgate generator, but none of the modifications made by the Future Ironworks. Likewise, the present-day tower in the 8UE timeline is in the same state and additionally still occupied by sleepy G'raha for the next 200 years.
