What if Chocobo Companion was Replaced with a Trust System?

Just a thought, but what if it was? And not something like a full four man or more party trust system, but just a singular Trust you can optionally travel around with based off of battle capable friends and allies you've met through FFXIV's main and various side stories.

Personally, I'd love to travel with the Deftarm of the Gnath. He's one of my favorite NPCs and it made me really happy to see him pop up in the Firmament in Ishgard. Would love to go traveling with him as my Trust.

Also this simple Trust feature could still retain the Barding Feature usable by our Chocobo. So you can essentially change the way your Trust looks through that system or the existing glamour system we can use on Gathering/crafting delivery related NPCs.

This system wouldn't mean you wouldn't be able to summon your Chocobo either. They would just be referred to as Trusts instead of Chocobo Companion. :3

Honestly, it would be nice if you could take your squadron out to level with.
And your chocobo too, because more features is always good.

Yes, please! I don't care if it's Trust characters, Squadron members, Retainers, other story or job quest NPCs, any kind of cool new open-world companions would be welcome. I don't quite have my chocobo's skill lines at max, but it's getting there fast. I'm sure a great many players already have it, and would happily level some fresh new companions all over again just for something to do.

Could work for squadrons but for everything else it'd mean walking spoilers everywhere. Imagine leaving the starting city and you see story/side story npcs everywhere.

One thing WoW did was make NPCs you were escorting appear differently to other players. To you, you're traveling with some important character, but to another player it just shows up as a generic mage or whatever. That way other players aren't spoiled and you won't see a bunch of Y'shtolas running around.

Unless they're invisible to all except for buffs on you're person to let others know your using them.., since i don't know how much usage they'd be each time they're called out.<interesting idea.., though the question I have, like I said.., is how this will affect things server wise.>

FFXI already does this exactly like OP asks and it works just fine. If not one of the best and only reasons to go back to XI

Mhm, played FF11 a few months ago as a new player and saw a Shantotto Trust and a bunch of other NPCs following a higher level players through the Tarutaru region's plains. Wasn't even concerned about any spoilers. Was more curious and slightly scared of seeing a demonic looking Shantotto floating around with elemental energy balls flowing around her. Dissidia absolutely fails for not showing this awesome yet terrifying side of her, lol! xD

Though, that's myself personally. Never really minded spoilers but wouldn't surprise me if a lot of others do when it comes to anything FFXIV story related. So having a little saftey often to disguise certain Trusts as generic NPCs, as another person posted here, would be for the best so as to make sure everyone is happy without another big FFXIV drama arising.

Honestly what I'd have liked is some build on the adventuring fellow they used to have in 1.0. Fleshed out in the same way the signal/tactics Pearl's worked in ffxi. With associated quests bonding etc etc even a mini limit break the 2 of you could pull off together.
