Can we get a 'Role Sprout' icon?

I was in Satasha earlier, and there was a new tank, albeit one that had clearly played the game for a while since they had the Endwalker title and no sprout.

Their tank stance was off. Which was fine. I told them and they said they didn't know how to turn it on, so I explained it. We rolled on.

Earlier, I decided to dive into the mysteries of Sage, and the healing experience is completely different to my WHM. Of course, I was catapulted right into a level 70 dungeon, and while I had a rough idea of what was going on, I couldn't quite grasp the whole idea of not overhealing.

So, can we get some sort of 'Role Sprout' icon?

You lose it after you have done 20-30 dungeons at a minimum of level 60.

This way, people know that you may not be able to perform to the absolute best of your abilities and can give some helpful advice along the way.

For example, when I first started healing on my WHM, I just assumed that Cure 3 should be my go-to spell from there on. Luckily, somebody informed me on the first dungeon that I had Cure 3 unlocked.

I have only just realised that Medica 1 heals for more than Medica 2 too. Actually, I have only just realised that Medica is always cast on self, not on your target. (yes, I am dumb)

But there are a lot of intricacies to this game, and it automatically assumes that somebody who has spent hundreds of hours tanking will easily be able to fall into something like, idk, BLM.

Can we get people to read tooltips instead?

Yes. That was my mistake. Cure 3 should not have been named Cure 3 anyway, because that makes people assume that it is an upgrade from Cure 2. Still, I think the game doesn't have this problem in the other languages. Just the English version.

And with the Medica thing, one automatically assumes that since every other spell that you get up to that point is cast on your target, that one would be too...Although, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter too much there anyway.

However, some roles are very confusing if you are plunged in the deep end, tooltips or not.

Then I suggest you do that because medica 2 has a regen attached that makes it heal way more than medica 1 in total.

Yes. I understand that. I am aware of how Medica 2 heals...

Before, I would use Medica 2 twice in the midst of intense damage, just to get everybody back up. Not realising that outside of the regen, Medica 1 was more potent.

So, now I understand that Medica 2 followed by Medica 1 would be a better choice.

As I said, it is my mistake. I admitted my mistake.

But it does seem like 90% of your posts on this forum seem to be attacking people? So, I guess it doesn't matter whether I admit it or not.

I was just saying why it may be important to have a 'role sprout' option so people can learn their roles, even when their normal sprout has long since disappeared.

Can you memorize every tooltip when you are just starting a new job, especially if it's a job which starts at level 50 or higher? I know I can't. PirateRyanG's suggestion has merit.

That's my standard course of action too, unless it's top level content; then, I assume the other players are more experienced than I am.*

For example, just off the top of my head:

    *snip for brevity's sake*

It's here where a job specific sprout icon could come in useful, especially if it grew based on how much content they'd have completed on that job.
Well said. I agree with you. FFXIV doesn't do an inadequate job of teaching people how to play. Reading the tooltips doesn't address that issue.

In fact, the language used in the tooltips is sometimes confusing and can lead the player to believe the spell or ability does something other than what it truly does. With that said, the thread is drifting away from the original topic.

Should there be a role/job sprout icon to alert fellow players that you are new to a job? I say yes.

Training dummies dont teach tanks to mitigate or how to pull.

They are also pretty useless for black mages, where learning how to be casting through mechanics, and how to avoid mechanics while casting, is the bane of BLM.

This kinda stuff is also true for any jobs.

Also, before training dummies are useful at all, you need to know your rotations. Most people who know their rotations learn them outside of the game.

The reason a lot of players go into roulettes blind is because the game does not teach them.
