Fine by me; but then some requirements are needing to be put in place..
1 - Allow the saving of home layouts; some players can take weeks to decorate.
2 - Unlimited storage of housing items which is not linked to the home itself - if your auto demoing every 30 days then I do not wish to waste my 4m+ of housing fixtures.
3 - Reduce the cost of homes....do away with it entirely.
4 - Get rid of the lottery; bring back the click based race - 30 days - 5 gives you 25 days of home ownership.

I think the idea of giving up your home over 30 days defeats the purpose of owning a home; especially when you consider Free-companies being constantly uprooted and ceasing to have a presence in a ward (contrary to popular belief; there are FC's that hang out at the FC house; outside and are creating a visable presence on some servers - thats to say nothing of the damage this would do to RP venues.

Your idea I think would also kill the interest of many in home ownership. A great deal of players often decorate as a long process and a costly one.
Consider this there are 7200 houses per server at the moment...
That means on your native server - that is 1 house per 89 characters. (source https://www.gamepur.com/guides/final...er-populations )
That is assuming EVERYONE is after a home. That is assuming every character is the correct GC rank and has the wealth to purchase a home and desires one
However - there is a limitation to consider - you can only have 1 private per world.
So ideally that number of players are on full accounts - this would make it 81k (approx) / 7200 = 11 people per house. Thats extremely good odds.

The problem is people owning multiple homes that strangles the market - because its a limited resource and people WILL pay for them.

In the worst case - its 1 in 89 chance to get a home.
Best case its 1 in 11.

Those numbers are both actually favoring the negative - as mentioned; not everyone can get a house or wants one for a variety of reasons so both those odds are likely significantly better.
Honestly - just removing the concept of FC housing as separate from private and limiting a home to 1 per DC would drastically free up supply and likely solve the issue. However there are some quality of life issues that would also need to be addressed - namely ensuring alts can use the same estate, increasing item limits, permitting private quarters in all houses.

Too weak, really. To tackle the problem with real zeal and ensure 100% of the player base is unhappy, we need to delete 100% of the characters every month. Then everyone has to start fresh grinding from level 1 with no gil. First to level 50, 2nd Lieutenant, and 40,000,000 can take their pick of the larges, for a month.

More the reason why I stopped bothering with attempts on getting a property altogether regardless.

- Placard was a hysterical joke; can’t believe most people literally camped & stayed on on hours long clicking on it (or resort to third party programs)

- Lottery was & is the 2nd head of the Hydra after cutting the first’s (being placard). Total madness….so many bidders (#s going as high as 100 or lore) only for one randomly to win it.

- Most wards are FC owned & perhaps disgustingly motivating individuals to cheat out on it all the same; be it creating multiple alts or banding together with soulless folks that share the same enthusiasm

It even begs the question….are we being mocked at or part of a social experiment out of their amusement? (Yes you developers!).

Just make housing instanced based like ESO & it will quell the angry mob that otherwise are ultimately right..

PS: Delight on having an FC room or apartment for the time being guys. It’s a lost battle; don’t bother pressing further.

I think the placard thing was closer to how housing should have been - the problem is that you never really limited the amount 1 player could own; so they created essentially real estate firms which ran amok and SE over-reacted to it.
Honestly - 1 house per DC
Build a structured market for housing - so if I wish to sell my home; then I must do so through the market system and ANY abuse of that is bannable (essentially if you try to freely trade a 1000 million gil and then also use the market system - the buyer could rat you out to SE and keep your house; thus making it a detriment for you to go outside the system AND encourage folks to rat you out for trying to exploit the market)
--Essentially every home would have a bottom and top market; the longer you own a home the higher your top market value goes. you can sell your home to another player for between what you paid for it from the system; or as high as your current market value permits; this stops rapid house flipping.

Do that and I think you would find everyone that wants one would get a house - then you need only deal with the crying for a Large.

Right now is the perfect time to get a house, really. This is just one server, one city, and just the larges. Throw in the mediums and it goes on for pages. Even a lot of the SSS plots only have 1 bid one on them.

Tons of homes on Materia too. The goal of SE at the moment is to increase the number of servers and to try and equalize populations. If you don't want to partake of the opportunity for new housing well the fact of the matter in my view is they won't be adding new wards to existing worlds until this phase is done. 4 more servers coming to Dynamis and a whole new DC to the EU with 8 additional servers. That's a lot of housing.

Will it fix the shortage no but it sure offers those who want a house the opportunity to get one. I moved an alt to Halicarnassus and I still can spend my time on Gilgamesh and Siren where i have friends and all my crosslinks and friend lists are as if I didn't leave.

I wish Materia had the opportunity to DC travel and can hope that SE will see the need and offer that hopefully sooner than later. I would be interested in seeing growth figures but my suspicion is people may be leaving for the new housing opportunities with Dynamis and the EU rather than stick it out on Materia and hope for the best.

I'm sure SE will take this advice given by you and Bladehawk with open arms. Can't wait for the next live letter to see them reaffirm they'll be deleting/demolishing all houses every 30 days and putting them up for sale.
