I miss Echoes in the Distance

The first time we get to Ultima Thule is so memorable to me, for many obvious reasons. A huge part of that was the music that played during those first moments. I really feel like Echoes in the Distance fully embodied that sensation of otherworldly calamity.

I really love Close in the Distance, but I feel like after the finale it feels a bit out of place while revisiting Ultima Thule, whether just doing quests or gathering. I think such an intense lyrical song is just a bit too much for the area it's in. I would love for Ultima Thule to have a day and night song, with Close in the Distance (Instrumental) as the day song, and Echoes in the Distance for the night song. I know day time and night time doesn't really fit the area well, so if I could only get one I think after the finale Close in the Distance (Instrumental) would be more fitting.

And if I can't get that I would really just appreciate having Echoes in the Distance as an Orchestrion Roll. It's a real shame that the song is just completely gone from the game after you reach a certain point in the story.

I agree, if one music had to go, it was the version of Close in the Distance with lyrics.
It would be more impactful if it only played during the story.

Echo in the distance as a night theme would be pretty nice, i like this version too.

Absolutely!
It was immediately the first thing I complained about after finishing the MSQ.
I love the eerie and unsettling ambience that Echoes in the Distance gives to the map.

They could just let the current bgm be played at the Elpis flower area. It's more fitting there.

When I got to that bit in the MSQ, I was so surprised that Soken actually did something that I hadn't seen from him. He managed to make a song sound "dead". But then the whole point of UT is that as we progress and the sacrifices that allow us to progress fill the world and allow us to continue. And it's a bit of a shame that we lose that progression feel. It isn't like the Everlasting Light themes in Norvrandt, the song being slowly filled up was part of the area itself. Even if Meteion's gone, it'd make sense to have that progression going.

Maybe even if it wouldn't be one phase per sector. The idea of having the instrumental version play on the overall map and the lyrics version play at the Elpis flowers bit and the bridge leading to it would be great. Because you'd have "hope" around UT, but it'd be hope that the inhabitants of each sector still hadn't come to terms with and probably can't. And at the end you have an area that isn't a Sector. It's a completely original bit meant for us to reach to Meteion and the rest of the universe, and it's there that that "hope" actually has a voice and someone willing to listen.

I told this to the people in my FC. It feels so weird doing BT dailies with Close in the Distance in the background.

I've just had to mute the music while I'm doing stuff there. Having it stop and start and play over random conversations does it no favours, and I'd rather keep it purely as the music I hear progressing through MSQ there.

I think it might have been best to replace the entire song once you cleared the credits. Go back to something "spacey" and lyric-free but less ominous. It would make sense from a lore perspective, I think – that song built up and came from your friends' sacrifices, a message from them to you as they persisted intangibly in the aether, but now they are restored to their bodies and safely home.

There's certainly a joy in just taking to the sky and soaring as the song plays unobstructed, but it's not right for anything else.

Switch on any new game plus chapter from before you get there and it will reset the area. It didn't stop you doing anything there before, although I haven't checked it since the beast tribe was added.
