All they really added was tracking gifts origin and destination. And preventing people from banking codes during a sale to sell when it's full price again.

Which they could have improved the item code generation system to track destination and take note at the redemption locations as well. Just redo how the item codes are generatedto accomadate that.

And then add a 10 day expiration date to reduce resale.

There's a solution for both issues they might have had in regards to rmt.

And if they're really afraid of rmt giving free (suspicious?) gifts, or duplicates to one character, they could just implement a "reject gift" option which returns to sender the cash. (Or crysta if theres a cash flow issue)

They didn't have to turn off mount gifts. There's other solutions they could explore. And this is just one of them.
