They clearly saw the numbers and came to the conclusion that the level of RMT's/Chargebacks/Purchases made with stolen cards was greater than the general use of gifting otherwise they wouldn't make this change to begin with.honestly, what was their plan with this? I figure they knew the community would have been pissed off. It also doesn't make sense on a profit level. A LOT pf FCs and Discord servers do giveaways and tournaments where you can win mounts etc., SE just cut off those profits + the subscription money from the people that actively engaged with that content. I have a friend who also plays and sometimes we liked to surprise each other with a gift from the mogstation too, but i guess thats gone now :/
Or it's just another ridiculous decision taken by SE, which isnt the first one that happened lately.
Stop with the excuses
Its hardly excuse. We don't know the metrics, we can only assume the reality that the level of rmt/theft was greater than the general use of gifting. Its common business sense. They wouldn't make a change like this and potentially have negative PR if the RMTing wasn't a major issue with most of it being used by stolen cards.
You act as if this is the first time they try and tackle RMT and the only thing it does is hurt the legit players and doesnt even touch RMT'ers. Its hardly excuse. In the end, the only ones losing are the real players, nothing is more fun than wanting to surprise someone and having to give them the money so they can buy the surprise themselves, that is just so much fun.
All they really added was tracking gifts origin and destination. And preventing people from banking codes during a sale to sell when it's full price again. Its hardly excuse. Which they could have improved the item code generation system to track destination and take note at the redemption locations as well. Just redo how the item codes are generatedto accomadate that.
And then add a 10 day expiration date to reduce resale.
There's a solution for both issues they might have had in regards to rmt.
And if they're really afraid of rmt giving free (suspicious?) gifts, or duplicates to one character, they could just implement a "reject gift" option which returns to sender the cash. (Or crysta if theres a cash flow issue)
They didn't have to turn off mount gifts. There's other solutions they could explore. And this is just one of them.
