Of course, this is a joke. I wouldn't think that because someone does, enjoys or participates in something that I do not, that they deserve to have that option taken away from them, especially out of callousness.

When they inevitably backtrack on this, yet ANOTHER short-sighted, reckless action that impacts people with unnecessary collateral damage to an established playerbase, I hope it remains your ONLY bother, and a isolated memory of a misstep, rather than an addition to the ever-growing pile of "things I really wish didn't happen" like some of us.
I'm loving that this is the thing that's generated collective indefensible rage. If you take issue with like.. job balance, or housing, or homogenization, or hroth/viera hats/hairs, or overpriced cash shop items that would've fit perfectly into the base game that we already buy to play and sub to, or the longer time between content releases from 3 months to 4, there's ALWAYS someone who can pull from their asshole a reason that "this is ackshually fine because blablabla." Even if you and I disagree with them and feel like they're arguing on bad faith, these types of people will still consistently exist and defend square to death over something that might seem utterly indefensible.

But now, oh boy. They're stopping you from gifting your friend a minion, and we're seeing multiple threads, with no defenders of it at all. This is it, after everything, this is the thing to truly unite the player base. We're united in our frustration. The barriers are down and we're all standing on the same front. Nobody thinks this is okay. Everybody thinks this sucks. And our first ever united rallying cry is: "please square, let us give you more of our money!!!"

I seriously don't even know what to call this type of humor, but it makes me laugh. Like, of all the things to "wake people up" to the fact that SE can screw up, it had to be our anger about not being able to pay them even MORE for shit that arguably should've been in the base game for free. And because timing is everything, clown costumes are for sale today.

Hey, you got me there. The finally did something that really bothered me. I just think its ridiculous when a company makes it harder for me to give them money, when their website already makes it hard enough.

Anniversary with the Eternally Bound coming up? Hey babe have a chocobo carriage I know you've been wanting it.

Just, let us give you money dammit. I had an event planned for someone I care about, there's a store mount she's really been wanting that I wanted to give her. And now I can't give her that.

I know SE listens to the community, so I wanted to add my voice to the chorus: Let us buy gift codes.

"Oh but what if they already have it?" then the receiver can re-gift it, or they can contact SE, or any other measure that so far has been working. But don't stop the entire community from being able to give each other gifts on that.

If the person doing the giveaway is not receiving anything in return, it's not. They define it in the ToS as exchanging in-game data or activities for compensation.

If said person was receiving cash or gil for an entry into the giveaway, that might be closer to their definition though.

I have never known a giveaway where they aren't getting something out of it. Maybe a harmless follower in the case of twitch and twitter but it'd still be disingenuous to say they aren't getting something in return. Absolutely nothing at all in any given way. Giveaways are used to incentivize, entice, and allure typically with sn ulterior motive behind it. Anything else would be properly labeled a "gift" instead.

I don't mind the friends list changes much, but I can see how it's going to be highly problematic.

What I DO mind is the inability to gift one-time use items. What the hell does that leave? Fantasias and dyes?
I would often gift my closest friends little emotes or such for their birthdays. This change makes it impossible to give (non-shitty) gifts without giving out real life information such as addresses or Venmos.

Piggybacking on this to say: now that all of those restrictions were implemented, we REALLY could use regional pricing. As an example, the new Lotus mount ends up as 5x the price I pay on Steam for my monthly subscription.

I don’t mind spending money on optional items from time to time, their quality has been going up a lot and it’s great to be able to join a trend. But now that my friends who are less likely to miss 10 bucks than I am can’t send anything my way, it’d be great if those were made more affordable outside of the US.

Still need tangible compensation such as exchanging in game items/gil or real cash to break the ToS, Twitter followers isn't a currency or something actually valuable/quantified with a value nor do I think they'd recognize it as one.
