You realise it would be better for it to be OCE with NA and EU instead of to JP given the language spoken in OCE is mostly English
Most of the JP playerbase are actually quite nice, you do meet the odd group that are extremely phobic of foreigners, but they are quite rare and only poke their ugly heads when there is new content. If I recall, it's basically the JP community that doesn't want it. They're afraid of a cultural war and a language dominance with the West. They don't want us in their DC with our unique and different from theirs beliefs and opinions. To them, we're just flies coming into their home from the drain pipes as they swat at us to go away. Opening DC travel would be removing the drain stopper and an army of flies move into your home as if entitled. They simy don't want to battle westerns. Maybe they'll think we'd win? Loud, obnoxious, don't know when to look the other way. Take mods for example. JP HATES them to the point of witch hunting. The west loves them to the point of making careers from it. Opening the doors would invade their DC with even more mods than they already deal with. This is just an exame of many. Conflicts of political abd religious rights causing drama too. And its not like our GMs are the best either at fixing harassment. They also don't want the west populating their PF with nightclubs snd RP. Then in duty finder, NA is bad at following party findrr diagrams. Something JP does a lot. Don't even get me started on their fears of NA weebs. Did you know they blame NA for the stale condition of the game right now?
Majority of OCE players are from Elemental, a JP datacenter.
Only about 20-30% of the english population moved to OCE, the rest are still on Elemental. (Mostly SEA players)
Cross-region would likely result in a single world hivemind, that everyone's expected to follow or risk social (or maybe even in-game because of the new reporting guidelines these days) sanctioning.
And once again, it would probably be set by top Gilgamesh raiders through their Discord influence, with little opportunity for dissenting opinions or the more mellow parts of the community to count.
JP is right to fear this. Keep travel within regions. If you want to play in multiple regions make the time investment and maintain alts.
You bring up excellent points, I agree 100%.
And I still want to keep JP DCs away from NA/EU/OCE cross-region travel. Even with all the non-Japanese/English speakers, Elemental's <50% EN average across the whole DC, while OCE's nearly 100%. With its low population, Materia could benefit from access to NA and/or EU.
They said it's technically possible (and it is because we have paid transfers), but they are not sure if they should do it or not. At minimum, NA and EU should be able to mix.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I don't want JP to come to my data center for a "world tour" with their uptight attitudes about mods, xenophobia and language barrier. OCE and NA are welcome though.Rather, don't allow any DC travel TO JP. That will solve a major part of the issue as JP players are of totally different cultures and would like not to get invaded by weebs, especially NA weebs. If JP players want to go on a world tour then that's fine. It's also fine if any other region wants to do it since they got more similarities in their cultures.
I am gonna necro my own thread. Why? Because game is unplayable.
Sending tracert to SE is pointless, this affects primarily EU players on NA.
If we had cross DC travel, I could at least go to EU and play like a normal person. But damned be us, who has most friends on NA.
Thread is 127 pages long, last 5-6 is us complaining about it.
