New Mogstation Gifting System (Unable to Gift items to Friends)

Since the new Mogstation gifting update has gone live, I am unable to gift friends certain items. Such as the new Mechanical Lotus mount.

I initially thought this was an oversight and so made a ticket in-game. The response I received stated:

"Items that can only be used once per character have been excluded from the gifting feature to avoid the possibility of the recipient having already used the item before"

Firstly, the mount in question is not a once per character item, its ACCOUNT-WIDE so already I feel like I have just been given a blank copy and paste statement.

Personally, I don't understand why this is a good justification. if they are once per character items or account-bound items. If they have the items already I'm screwed regardless? and they are my friends, I will obviously ask them if they have it before buying items.

I find this update to be very disappointing given the restrictions, I tend to buy a couple of friends items regularly through the mogstation.

Its not a huge issue of course but I just don't understand the need to restrict us in this way?

Again, not the biggest of issues in the world but was still a disappointing discovery. Wanted to buy 3 copies of the mounts and ended up getting 0 because of this.

I also find this update to be very disappointing. I frequently gifted small items to people who were not on my friend's list for a monthly screenshot contest.

It seems to me that a better solution would have been requiring an active OTP on an account of a certain age in order to send gifts from the Mogstation, or perhaps having the gift accounts region locked (although I did occasionally send gifts to people on other data centers.)

I hope they will reconsider this change so as not to penalize those of us who used the Mogstation gifting option for its intended purpose

I also find this update to be very disappointing. Any player event that gave away items is affected by this.
Sure, my event are so small I can just add everyone to my friend list.

But the restriction of once per player/account items basically makes the gifting feature useless.

I occasionally gift items to streamers who I like the content of.

This ends that.

The 'OTP equipped account that is at least 4 months old' would be a better option

It's a very disappointing decision. I don't mind the friends restriction and wouldn't care if it were extended in time, but I hope that it will be re-evaluated to include all items. Mounts, minions and emotes make awesome Christmas and birthday gifts for my friends.

While it can't be done for emotes, it's trivially easy for us to look at the recipient's lodestone and see if they already have the mount or minions before we buy it as a gift.

By once per chr they probably mean you can only use it once at all.. seeing as the item would be wasted if they already have it where as like dyes and stuff can be repeat used..

Yes I believe I misunderstood what they were stating there. However while misunderstood, their reasoning is still rather odd. If I'm gifting something to somebody, chances are I'm in contact with them and more than able to determine if they have the item or not by myself

It is very sad that we are penalized again for people doing stuff that is illegal. I get this is to counter rmt but they are going to lose tons of money now. Mounts, emotes, and minions ironically are some of the most gifted things among friends and streamers.

I as well have given items for prizes, and just for fun to people who have helped me over the years but as of right now just like a few things I dont agree with this just gets added to that bucket hoping it will change in the near future to allow us to do this again.

Every other game has to deal with this crap and they dont penalize the player. Talking Many many many other mmo games over the years.

Ironically being able to still gift story skips and boosts is also another one of those Wait you stopped us gifting the other stuff but not these.

If they want to really focus and crack down on rmt and bots then they should be hunting down the bots that are clearly doing it in game cause by the twelve even if I have noticed somewhat less...there are tons and tons of bots I see a month in ffxiv hiding under the ground to kill things, or fishing, or just warping into an area they shouldnt be able to and warping out after doing whatever quest marker is there.

I wanted to also add my disappointment with the gifting system updates.

With this new change, I won't be sending in-game gifts from the cash shop to my friends. It's now too complicated.

Yeah it's completely retarded - all you'd have to do is make sure the account is verified and have it be older than say 6 months or something. You could even ask for proof of identification which could then go even further to ensure the end user is who they say they are and that their CC details all match up.

Problem solved.

But rather than SE actually doing some hard work for a change they penalise everyone.

We're going the WoW route real quick these days....
