Yeah it's kinda bothersome. I got Sleipnir mount and a panda minion as a birthday gift and also gifted a long-time friend the fat cat minion 'cuz they love those.
I hope they aren't intent on keeping them permanently restricted like this.![]()

That's a pity was planning to gift two friends a mount for when they finally join the game this just puts a damper on the surprise I was planning.

If I'm actually friends with someone, i can just ask them what mounts/emotes/minions/orch rolls they have. If i choose not to and get something they already had, that's on me. That rule seems geared more towards all the rp venues that do giveaways. Just let me spend money on my friends.
That doesn't make sense either. RP venues literally give the items away with no expectation of any kind of 'reimbursement' other than 'be here and RP'.If I'm actually friends with someone, i can just ask them what mounts/emotes/minions/orch rolls they have. True, which is why I like the 'must be on friends list' part of it, and mailed directly as the item rather than a code.
And it won't stop the venues from doing it. It'll just cause a 72 hour delay in rewarding.
That's not true. There's PLENTY of venues who auction off mogstation items by having people pay a certain amount of gold to be included in the lottery pool for said item. "1 mil gil to join raffle for cruise chaser mount" for example. They even did it with the omega statue emote. It's a form of money laundering and low-key rmt.

I don't understand why some items can be gifted and others can't. Was thinking of gifting the new mount to a friend but can't.

This just merely returns this to the olden days of "before this feature existed" for me.
:| I just send the friend money for the item and let 'em purchase it themselves. A little less convenient for me, sure, but if I wanted to get a friend a gift off the online store it's not inconvenient enough to stop it.
Actually. . .considering how annoying the store was to use and how easy it is to transfer money these days, it's actually more convenient for me but less convenient for the receiver.

But me gifting things usually goes like this:
Yo tell me what you want <- till it gets said, mostly for clothes and annoy so long until i get an answer OR
Me just dropping the giftcode out of nowhere with no context
Both are fun to do if i'm being honest and now that option for me is completely gone.
Now I have to give money and say for what it is
And all the giveaways from nice people can't be done now :C
