I simply know I'm currently a target of identity theft, and hiding my identity would just make me easier to replace with a double.
So I post about caramel sauce on rice.
I don't particularly care if the wider forums believe me.
idk maybe because you don't post "hot takes"? Why would you be harassed if you're part of the "majority"?what is there to hide from if you truly stand behind the opinions you express here?
This is my main (should be obvious from how almost every day my avatar is switching what it's wearing). I have no problems posting from it. I have yet to be harassed or had any unpleasant encounter as a result after 4 years. The most that has happened is the occasional player will say they recognize my name from the forums.
I figure if some psycho takes a forum argument into the game and starts harasssing me, it's an opportunity to rid the game of a psycho by reporting the encounter to the GMs. Most players aren't going to risk the ban. You're a lot more likely to get attacked on the subreddit, Twitter, etc. and since I don't post on those things, it won't be a problem for me.
And since when posting with alts is sign of cowardice? It's a smart thing to be as incognito as possible when on online. Especially since SE is weird regarding their TOS. I don't know if the situation is still the same, but I recall someone telling their experience on being stalk. But since their stalker doesn't say anything or do anything drastic, the mods doesn't do anything since technically it isn't breaking TOS.
Also why would we need to wait until we're being harassed before we use alts? That defeats the purpose.
You might chalk this up as me defending aveyond, but nope it's just mind-boggling to me that people have put their life on the line (hyperbolic in case some people don't get it) just to "prove" something. Like, I don't give a crap if that's your main or alt account, and that applies to everybody else. I still gonna assume that you, the person behind jojoya, is being genuine with your opinions.
No, I don't see it as a defense of Aveyond. I also didn't accuse him of cowardice (I assume that was directed toward Deveryn ).idk maybe because you don't post "hot takes"? Why would you be harassed if you're part of the "majority"?

I question why anyone should be so fearful of such a remote possibility happening. In-game harassment is almost always connected to in-game conflict. It's rare for forum conflict to flare up in game.
Living in fear of "what ifs" is a good way to destroy your quality of life as you begin to think of more "what ifs" and change more of your life to avoid them.
But that's enough for being off topic. The topic was Brian leaving the game. Again, I wasn't a fan of the W2G style but I still had respect the work they did to get information out to the community. I'm glad that he wants to focus more on his family. Parents only have one chance to watch their children grow up and a game shouldn't get in the way of that.
Why care about tags that can be added by anyone for any reason?
He published another video.
"New World Top 5 reasons why it beats out Final Fantasy XIV"
https://youtu.be/7CskEwjlp5c
If that's his way of "quitting" i'm guessing he's gonna talk about XIV for a while.
I'm not against the idea of making comparisons between two games you invested a lot of time in, but i didn't expect that to be in the title of his video.

- he can't get over his hang ups of how old school MMO's used to work (and yet he decided to have 5 kids and wants a career outside of playing MMO's too? he'll never have any time to play lol)
- praises FFXI and 1.0 style (ewwww)
- doesn't like balanced classes as much
- doesn't like how "theme park ride" XIV is (i.e. too much instanced content and not enough open world stuff - i mean this topic has been debated to death and it's something that XIV just isn't going to change really unless the backend of the game can accommodate way more than 300 people in an regular open world instance and honestly I don't think this is something the XIV devs want to tackle at all)
- wants more open world conversation (gross)
- wants people to fail more at content, but yet still get stuff for trying? why should you get anything just for trying if you don't complete it?
- not sure what he means by making marketboard items matter? i mean sure some stuff used to mean something back in the day in ARR days, but then as the game went on people just got more and more money and thus didn't really need to worry about this anymore. eventually New World will get to this point too.
The one thing I saw from Asmongold's and Zepla's react video to GingerPrime's video is that we all want to know what his "joke" was that upset the "hypersensitive" people. I think based on what the basis of his standup comedy is is whether or not people will cancel him or not esp if his jokes are based on bad takes, etc.
Part of why I stopped watching him years ago, for every positive point he'd ever bring up for XIV, he'd have to add two more points of why XI was even better. Watching his videos, just felt like talking current day gaming with your friends, and he's the friend that no matter what game everyone else is talking about, has to bring up how he thinks Sega was the peak of gaming, but that no one understood it.TL/DR (not an exhaustive list)

The fact this thread became about Aveyond's privacy and preferences after but a single post regarding them says several things, and none of those things are good - but several are hilarious.
I.... What? You really lost me here. Are you okay? You're not sick?
What does this have anything to do with us?
I don't blame anyone for choosing to keep the identity of their main character hidden from the more deranged elements of this game's community. At least one of the male elezen posting in this thread made a post the other day - now deleted - actively wishing for someone to dox and ban another poster and I can attest to being stalked many times by complete nutters who can't separate reality from fiction and harass anyone who is fond of this game's antagonists.
It's also pretty standard practice for a lot of people to not want to broadcast every last little detail of their online or real lives to complete strangers. It has nothing to do with 'cowardice' no matter how often some try to frame it as such.
