It has changed, people in FF14 are in denial of this not all but most are. I have played this since 1.0 and been on off, btw they are very hateful towards this guy. Because of click bait? People need to chill out that is not a good reason to hate on him. A friend of mine said some guy on a FF14 FB page is showing this hate for him, I did some investigation on him and this guy is some weirdo who has hate for W2G and Gingerprime. I don't blame him for leaving for New World, I think the mmo is very good and yes FF14 is lacking alot of stuff I can give a whole huge list of the things FF14 lacks.
But most players here don't like what we like so it is a struggle to ask the devs (for this or can you place this or this etc etc...) but we do get a lash back from the community, because they don't like that.
I think they should remake FF11 for those who want that mmo experience and make it somewhat like New World and bring the 3 missing races that 11 doesn't have, the Viera, the Hrothgar and Au'Ra. And I believe this is where SE struggles in the series. And in FF14, devs can't please everyone and it took them a very long time to place variant dungeons when a person ask for this 10 years ago.
Not many will like this, they just want to run gun the dungeon and leave.
Honestly I'm also a t the point of leaving the game and returning back to FF11. I'm not going to ask devs to place this for me if it risk them of losing majority of the people who don't like what I like.

Have to get in on this as everyone seems to be!
As an old XI player as well, I do understand what Brian is missing, XI, if was your first MMORPG it cant be beaten, but times and type of person who plays mmo's has changed.
I will admit I hated when FFXIV was announced was kick in the nuts to XI players, imagine they announced a new final fantasy mmo right now.... but after many years of playing XIV I do realise why it is this way, It has opened up the game to a larger audience and main thing, it works! Player numbers never been higher and more starting even now mid expansion.
All we can hope for is that with all the money they making SE will do a hardcore MMO like XI again one day in future, but for now XIV is fine to pass the time and have fun with. I do wish Brian good luck but you really are not going to find what you are missing in New world.

I wish they'd at least incorporate certain aspects of XI into XIV, but every single system boils down to 'kinda like XI but very dumbed down', but it looks nice and plays fast, so it's fine. The state of the jobs alone is just sad.Have to get in on this as everyone seems to be!

Im not reading the entire thread, but my 2 cents...
If he is done with XIV, whether temporarilly or permamently, then thats fair enough. It takes a lot of effort to stick with one game for too long and I dont think its healthy either.
Also, as he is a new parent, he will probably find that his time in games will change and hardcore content become less and less viable. Thats just life.
As for XI, I played it until end game and while I kinda get why some players want that, it was riddled with its own problems and feel a bit "been there, done that, dont need to do it again".
I like that XIV is more casual, as an adult with responsibilities I simply couldnt engage with a game like XI in a meaningful way. I sure as hell couldnt sit LFG for an hour or two followed by 2 hours levelling to get 1 level, or part way to a level. Nor could I spend 2+ hours straight on a trial.
While there are a fair number of XIV players who basically want XIV to be XI-2, times change, players grow up, and people dont want it. So, the games will change. If that means the super hardcore playerbase need to find new games then thats just life. XIV isnt going anywhere any time soon and I hope the more hardcore players who dont want to stick with it find enjoyment elsewhere. There is no need for anyone to be toxic about it.
When MMOs first came out, there wasn't as much competition for people's time as there is now. They simply can't afford to do the "hardcore" style anymore. I put it in quotes because, looking back at the design, there wasn't much to it. Some might call it lazy. People whine about tome caps now, but they probably never had to spend whole days working on one level or one raid zone, where you had to deal with a lot of trash mobs.
Those days are done. If you want to invest that kind of time in something, there are plenty RL projects to consider and legit be proud of.
can i have ur stuff
