There is times I have thought of quitting FFXIV myself. I feel like content has been lackluster for a while and the things people want changed just doesn't happen. If the rate the game has been going will this really last 10 more years? IDK I hope it does but also the game itself has been feeling stagnant.

What's that? People who have different opinions are being silenced? Who would've known! o3o

Lol good lord, half of these comments give me hope while the other half makes me feel bad to be associated when I say I play FFXIV.

Like him or not, Brian has done A LOT of good for FFXIV and in all of his criticisms he always makes it a point to say things like "theses are my personal preferences" or "I love FFXIV but I just wish".

Hes never just gone and said FFXIV was bad.

The irony in trying to build and force a community to be nice is that it has bred about half a population of people who act like babies and hide behind virtue signaling when they themselves are just as toxic.

Why can't we just say it sucks that someone who dedicated SO MUCH of their life to a game feels like they were pushed out for multiple reasons. Isn't this game based around being for everyone? Doesn't this sound like something we should figure out or at the very least investigate and give real credence to since its possible that others probably feel that way as well?

Idk that's just my two sense.

I'll be honest, I've never heard of him before this.

It's not surprising he would lose enthusiasm for the game after playing so long. If you feel the game isn't for you anymore there's no reason to continue to playing as we have finite time on this earth and there's no need to waste it on things you aren't enjoying. So I'm glad he took the healthier route and is choosing to focus on a game he wants to play instead.

So the content creators are finally leaving after the game's cracks are so great that they are no longer able to ignore them? What. A. Shock.
Hopefully the trend continues (like history has shown us time and time and time and time and time...) and the devs get the message. Though the RMT plea they posted was pretty funny.
"We strongly encourage players to refrain from engaging with these groups, as there would be no reason for RMT vendors to exist if players do not use their services."
They might as well said, "YOU, the player, are keeping the RMT alive... But we do like those subs...". If they followed it up by "if this continues we will began punishing the buyers." then they might have something, lol.

So? What are we going to start hating people from forming opinions about the issue? You do realize what Asmon even said about the topic was actually positive?

Yes - and to be clear, I wasn't particularly being negative/"hating" - just saying that it's somewhat interesting that he popped up to comment on this when his overall interest in the game has been minimal lately.

However I maintain the 'almighty opinion' aspect of my comment, as there are some who take his word/opinion for gospel.

It's called getting older. When you're in high school most, if not all, of your friends play video games regularly. Once you hit college, many of them stop. Once they graduate college and get jobs, even more stop. Once they get married, even more stop. Once they have kids, even more stop. Ultimately there are far fewer players from your generation who are left to play with you. Naturally the community is going to feel different when the majority of the players don't like the same music you do, didn't watch the same movies you did, and don't face the same problems you do.

You can huff the copium and chalk the changes up to made up concepts like "toxic positivity," but the fact is that the internet has brought many elements of society that previously had no contact with each other together. The "dirty jokes" and the disparaging remarks that used to seem funny to your buddies are not as funny when they're at the expense of people whose company you now regularly enjoy. I, for one, prefer "toxic positivity" to the mean-spirited community that I grew up in and to the elitist jerks who design WoW. I don't have to be mad at my fellow players all the time to enjoy my video games.

The fact is that Brian finally acquired the perspective to recognize that there is far more to life than playing video games. Good for him. Someday his kids will be older, and he'll find himself with free time again. He even explicitly said that when that happens he'll likely come back. Most of us will likely have moved on to bigger and better things by then, but I'm sure that many of us will still be around to welcome him back with open arms.

This seems like a backwards take on things because he says he is still going to be playing MMOs regularly, just not this one.
