At the same time, your worldview doesn't account for people making mistakes in high end content, and assumes the worst of everyone you come across. I cannot agree to that worldview. there can never be any kind of massive regular open world zone boss the way the game is structured. at most approx 300 people can fit in a zone before it becomes congested. and even then due to graphics culling you only see the people closest to you. and then you have to turn down effects because everyone doing everything makes it undiscernable as to what the boss is even doing.

this is why there's separate instanced zones in Eureka and Bozja that only hold a limited amount of people.

Sad to him go but has a life he has to do which is important. Also he has discussed that the community has changed over the years and doesn't feel the same anymore. I been in FFXIV for 8 years and it has changed over the years. Toxic positivity has been rising, constructive criticism is booed off.

There is times I have thought of quitting FFXIV myself. I feel like content has been lackluster for a while and the things people want changed just doesn't happen. If the rate the game has been going will this really last 10 more years? IDK I hope it does but also the game itself has been feeling stagnant.

Well, considering the "rate the game has been going" is "getting more popular with each subsequent expansion, with EW having the highest playerbase ever and the best overall ratings," I'd say they're moving in an excellent direction right now...

He's nothing but complimentary to FFXIV, and he's put "tens of thousands" of hours into it over the years. I wish I had that attention span. Sometimes people just want more time for things that aren't MMOs.

As someone who's eternally in and out of the door, though, I'm sure we all know he's going to be back for 7.0. He won't be able to resist once he spots a trailer.

Seems you didn't watch the whole video then. Around 7:30 he points out that FFXIV is a game that doesn't take risks and that it feels like a game designed purely to catch upset WoW players. Then the section around 11:10 where he points out that the community is insecure and rejects any attempts to improve or critique the game.

I didn't consider that particularly controversial. FFXI was Square's take on Everquest, FFXIV is Square's take on WoW. If the Final Fantasy games catch dissatisfied players from their "source" games, that means Square did what it set out to do better than their competition. That's about as "working as intended" as "working as intended" can get.

The community is certainly insecure, and things have been so stable for so long the community rejects the developer's attempts to take risks and change up the formula. I see that as more of a reader/writer contract that needs a refresh, and I'm personally hoping 7.0 can do that without causing an actual apocalypse of feedback.

As for what he thinks about Endwalker, I'll take a peeksies-- but glancing over the comments there it seems fairly paint-by-numbers. Either way, the tone of this video is very complimentary of a game he's started to move past IRL.

I remember seeing this guys videos so long ago where he was telling people to put all tank defensives on 1 macro, oh it was such a laugh seeing someone do something that bad. surprised hes still around.

If he bounced to spend more time being a husband and father, then I support his decision 100%. I'm really not sure what he was doing spending so much time gaming anyway as I have no idea how a husband and father of three would even have the time.

Yeah, pretty much this. Risks are full of possibilities, so I don't mind seeing companies do so. But WoW...its fall from grace was not from taking too many risks. It was the devs adhering to their "vision" and no one else's, even as they lost millions of subs and millions upon millions of dollars.

Nah. That and DF weren't the beginning of the end. If that were the case, then this game was doomed from the very beginning. At this point, it's the only way to get things done sometimes in WoW, especially if you are on a dead server like mine, which was all but obliterated by the last two expansions.
