    Controller unresponsive every few seconds

    HI there,

I've recently gotten a new computer and since then I've had a repeating issue when trying to play FF14. So far this the only game to have this problem.

The controller inputs do not read every few seconds - this is most noticeable when running forward as I will stop on the spot for a second before continuing, though other inputs don't work when this happens as well. It's sporadic and seems to trigger every 10-20 seconds, though there are instances where it's more common and others when it doesn't do it at all.

I've tried various workarounds like updating/reinstalling/disabling some drivers but nothing seems to work at all.

It's an xbox controller plugged in directly via USB cable.

Is there any known fixes for the issue? It's not going away and every fix I've attempted (updating drivers etc) isn't working.

no idea how relevant they are today but 2 things that used to be quite commonly the cause for it would be. the "microsoft device associaition root enumerator" in device manager. many people found disabling that worked.

the second that comes to mind is steam. or more specifically "steam input" if enabled. This might only be for the steam client though unless you have a general controller profile set up in steam.

if your game is steam can go to your library find ffxiv right click > properties > controller > disable steam input.
my ffxiv isnt steam so i used tomb raider as an example

or if not the steam version but do have steam. open settings > controller > desktop configuration

and make sure everything is at its defaults. (ignore the ctrl+1-4 mappings I have applied to the rear paddles on my elite series 2)

maybe 1 of those will help

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it's not either of them. I don't run it via steam and I've experimented with turning steam off. I've tried it with disabling the root Enumerator and it still persists.

    Greetings fellow Eorzean,

If you have multiple USB slots, have you tried plugging the controller into a different slot? Additionally, if you have any other USB devices that are plugged into your PC, I recommend unplugging everything and only having your controller connected to see if that makes a difference. It might also help to run a clean boot on your PC to ensure that there aren't any other programs running in the background that might interfere with your controller's drivers. You can perform a clean boot by opening your Task Manager, navigating to the 'Start Up' tab, and disabling all applications listed there. Afterward, restart your PC and try running the game again.

Hopefully this helps! Thank you for posting in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Technical Support Forums.
