Yeah that's exactly how one of WoW's expansions started, and said expansion saw an absolutely enormous drop in players that the game still hasn't recovered from 4 years later. Destroying beloved people and places simply for misery porn is a horrible idea, and there's already a perfect example of the consequences it would have on the game to show just how bad an idea it is.

Thank you for explaining why those of us who were into Garlemald, Ascians, Ancients, and traditional fantasy sort of locations and themes feel slighted by the way current FFXIV is going. Yoshi bulldozed it all to make room for what? A pale excuse for an FFIV crossover and the permanent handicapping of this game's afterlife and outer space lore?

Genius move. Yoshi really took a page out of Afrasiabi's book and integrated it into the game several times over and in the worst ways possible.
