If you dont enjoy the content that is one thing, but to say there is not enough to justify the price sounds...off. How do I: who has been playing 8-9 years STILL have plenty of stuff to do, but you sound like you dont have anything/enough to do?
I mean, I enjoy this game well enough that I play with alt characters and I've been busying myself leveling them up and progressing through the game. This on top of keeping up with my main keeps me happy to stay subscribed.

Not everyone is like this, but it feels weird that people complain that they're feeling like current content isn't enough to keep them subbed.

Buddy if you are already feeling that, that means you're not entirely enjoying the game anymore. It's seriously ok to unsubscribe and leave for other games. Stop trying to justify your own subscription, it shouldn't be this complicated.

I made no such assumption; specifically saying it would be "either or". Regardless, the raid community, wouldn't care. Not enough to make it mandatory by any stretch of the imagination. If they did, people would lock out players still using one or two crafting pieces or tanks with sub-optimal accessories. Hell, Ultimate weapons are BiS in the odd patches yet nobody cares about locking those in even for speed runs. Speaking on that, non-meta jobs are still represented in parsing. I should know, I play one of them: Warrior.

We have entirely separate BiS options for jobs based around skill speed. 2.46 Dragoon is weaker than 2.5, the preferred set. Both are still listed for player preference.

To be entirely blunt, this screams of someone who has never set foot in the raid community making baseless accusations of them. It's complete nonsense. Will players want to chase new BiS pieces? Some, probably. Will it be made mandatory for PF or even static recruitment? Nope. Unless you're attempting to join a top rank speed kill group, literally no one will a damn if you have the i630 Crit/Pie Ring or the hypothetical new Criterion Crit/Det one.
Jojoya isn't completely wrong though. There has been many a time where the raid community has been in that mind set. Remember when the PF wouldn't allow certain jobs in parties? There are plenty of times when the NA community at least gets so tied to the Meta or a raid strat that no matter how many times someone trues to show them there's a better way or to say eff the meta they won't listen. I don't know about you and yes this doesn't have anything to do with raiding but you remember how sacrifice pulls used to be the thing running dungeons? Skip Soar or disband didn't become a meme on day one.

    Comments from elsewhere:

Let me add one thing SE does that WoW lacks as well content wise. FF14 does not discard their old content. They still value it, they still send you there from time to time, they still support people doing that content. WoW does none of these things, so the world feels soulless and empty by now.
FFXIV is an RPG with an MMO tacked on to it. WoW has been reduced to an engagement trap and a part-time job where you pay instead of getting paid. I super love that I can walk away from FFXIV for months or even years at a time and then come back to it when I'm in the mood. I love being able to play other games instead of having to become completely entrenched in FFXIV.
Pretty much a solid take as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for the laugh by the way, the "disastrous content release"..ohhh the drama. I actually wonder why you still play Aveyond, if this is how you feel..see, theres you and your dramatic, end of the world hot takes..and theres everyone else playing and enjoying themselves.

I know which one speaks far more loudly.

    Something to consider, no?

Go ask that question on the Diablo 4 forum. The answer will surprise you.

... doesn’t justify paying the same price as a AAA title or WoW sub when those offer 10x the content.
As a former WoW player, who paid for over 120 months of the game at $15 a month, I have to ask you: where do you get "10x the content"? I definitely remember months with nothing to do but create and level alts.

Didn't WoW also have at least one whole year where they didn't give it any updates? Yet here we get updates every few months with big and small sized content. Though I'm assuming they think that the dev team is capable of pumping out stuff at a faster rate and of similar quality. Oh wait I doubt they would be able to do so. Which would just get them grumbling about the quality. Part of the reason they pumped out so much during ARR was due to trying to make sure the game didn't die on relaunch.

pretty much this, they were on full damage control during those few years after 2.0 launch even when HW launched so they had to probably overwork themselves to the bone. Now that they've found their audience they're able to relax a bit and it clearly shows from their work schedule and how much Yoshida wants to prevent the team from burnout. The worst that can happen to them is getting so burnout that they lose the motivation to continue working on FFXIV. Anybody in the industry can tell you how easy it is to fall into that trap

We're on the system we have now and quality assurance has already been a point of contrition. I imagine it'd be quite worse if that came to pass.

Though question is how much of the team is still on board? Didn't a good handful of them start working on FF16? ...or are those people working on both titles at the same time?

On one hand, I think what most people need to understand is that FF14 has established itself as a "chill MMO". Where you come in, have fun, no one expects any more from you, vamoose to whatever else you wish to do.
Even for a marketing strategy, that's still a really good thing. You wouldn't hear those public stunt guys give out such a response. It worked for FF14 and that seems to match what the devs have in mind.

On the other hand, I was told that WoW had the mindset people accuse 14 of: cater too much to casuals and alienate their dedicated fanbase and then wonder why your game isn't too popular.

So there needs to be a balance, especially in an ongoing online game. You should make content that lasts, but also not feel pressured to pump out content every other week.

That's one reason I do worry about the CBU 3. Those guys are spread out between XIV and XVI. SE is placing a lot on there plate with there recent track record of games. This is kinda high stakes for them.

I can just agree with you all and i share the point that it felt like we were just given bones instead of meat but it's just that it always boils down with... i know i am spoiled with getting a whole table filled with treats in other mmorpgs in the past so i have started to download other games to have on the side when things get's a bit grey in ffvix. I won't burn myself out with going with " oh i am going to level up the rest of the jobs/alts just to have something to do" if i do that it won't take long before i uninstall.
FFVIX reminded me how it feels like to have a home again, haven't felt like this in a long time so i can understand why SE is rather chill , burning yourself out in pursuit for entertainment and happiness is just wrong.
    Cheers to you all
    Good morning
