It seems that there’s a small amount of people who want FFXIV to have a “grind” because they just want something more to do. The game falls short of repeatable content. And it’s disappointing that SE sells this game in the same category as WoW and GW2 when it’s anything but. As many (likely most) people agree, FFXIV is just a numbered Final Fantasy game, which means it’s largely single-player. There’s no repeatable content for the most part. And a lot of you all love that, that’s fine. That’s why you like Final Fantasy games. After all, 14 is just one less than 15 and one more than 13, so how big of a difference can you be?

But it would benefit everyone, and make a lot more sense, if SE didn’t charge a sub fee. That makes us think this game is like FF11 (the black sheep of the franchise) and WoW, which we all agree it’s not. They need to make the difference clear from a financial standpoint just like they have from a gameplay standpoint.

I seriously dont ever want this game to further follow in the unfun grind mentality akin to WoW for character progression. It does just enough for me to not make me further hate myself for playing the game.

And that's fine! FFXIV is at a crossroads right now. It seems like the devs want to cool things down and give FFXIV a place on the shelf along with other numbered single-player Final Fantasies. The heydays of this game being an active, vigorous and grind-filled MMO are over. Square Enix is moving on, and many people here will need to as well. All games have their expiration date. You can't expect Square Enix to continue propping us up forever as though this is Blizzard and WoW (a company that has 10x the assets and operating income). Soon most of us will move on from this game, likely within the next one to two years.

Until the next expansion at least. I think 7.0 and the graphics update will bring a lot of inactive players out of retirement.

You are absolutely correct. The disastrous state of current content rollout in no ways justifies the current sub fee. Abolish it.

But yeah you know what? Lets make xiv free to play. That'd at least quiet the folks mad about mogstation. And we'll REALLY go down hill. Yall think xiv is bad now? You've no idea how bad it'd be if it was f2p

I pay a sub to access my friends list, but the content is long gone. The dungeons and raids we’ve gotten don’t make up for the price I’m paying each month. It’s a very threadbare game. Once I convert my friends to another game I’ll cancel my sub too.

That means paying $15 x 4 = $60 per patch cycle. The amount of content doesn’t justify paying the same price as a AAA title or WoW sub when those offer 10x the content. I just wish SE realized this before it’s too late. I know we just use the forums for venting, but hopefully there’s a tiny, tiny chance they could actually take this into consideration.

Some people play more efficiently than others. (preface, I'm not bragging, this is just for perspective) I've only been playing 1.5 years, i'm at 92% minions, 67% mounts, nearly 50% achievements, all extreme mounts, all savage mounts except current, all role quests, all shared fate, a good chunk of gold saucer grinds, practically every job at 90 (sage and reaper i'm taking my time with), soon to be all Trusts will be levelled too. MSQ fully caught up, most sidequests done, all current content (that I am capable of) finished til 6.3, which is quite a way away. At which point, what is there really left for me to do? Sit around on my hands waiting for S ranks to pop? Grind tomes to buy gear that 1. doesn't matter a great deal and 2. will be replaced faster than it takes to get it? There's a very big difference between content and meaningful content. Sure, sitting around waiting for S ranks to spawn is content. And the 5 seconds it takes to kill them, is also content. But is it meaningful content? Will I look forward to doing it or grow to resent it? More than likely it'll be the latter. If it wasn't for my in-game friends, I probably would've unsubbed a while ago and just come back in 2 years or whatever for the next expansion when I'd actually have meaningful things to do
