I will say this. The patches have been lackluster a lot. Housing is joke. 4 months to fully gear out a class. They want to keep this game going for 10 more years? If this is all they have to offer it won't last another 2 years at the rate the content has been going. They really need to start spicing up this game seriously. I have been thinking of going over to GW2 since combat is way better then FFXIV's. If a MMO comes out soon and ends up being really good I will say FFXIV will be very small population

It doesn't take 4 months to gear a class tho. And its been this way for the last 8 years, why would it suddenly be terrible and take a nose dive?

Personally, I found GW2 combat boring, since at the time I played, it was just a big zerg since there were no dedicated healers or tanks.

I've tried going to other MMOs after XIV came out, and they all paled in comparison. Controls were clunky, UI wasn't as good, etc.

People have been bringing up Ashes a lot recently, but I'm beginning to wonder if that will ever release. I went to an alpha event at PAX like 5 years ago...

They need to do more things like Eureka, and Bozja in terms of longevity between patches, considering it takes them forever to release the next fun thing we need something in between to keep us tied over that can last for months.

Agreed. The developers really seem to think the game isn't an MMO for some reason. They claim that they want to keep this going for at least 10 more years, yet where's the content to keep people around? Variant dungeons were cool I guess, but the rewards are lackluster. Beast tribes are literally just a set of chores to do every day. Manderville weapons are good for those who don't have ilv 630 weapons yet, but to get them it's literally just a tomestone grind. (And no, the pre-existing Manderville quests do NOT count as new content just because they're required now) Now I know that a certain crowd of people are going to jump in and say "iT's jUsT a MiNor pAtCh!!!". I will accept this reasoning when the time between major patches is smaller than it is now. If it's been 2 months since the last patch with content, I expect more than daily chores to do. Variant Dungeons are thankfully a decent solution, but I can't see this lasting another 2 months.

There seems to be this weird misconception amongst players that they're meant to be taking breaks for long periods of time. I think they got this idea from when Yoshi P told players that it's ok to take breaks when you're at risk of burning out. A lot of players seem to forget that second part and just latch onto the first half. This is an MMO. We're meant to be playing it a lot and thus paying the subscription fee a lot. MMOs aren't meant to have massive content droughts where you're 'meant to' unsubscribe from the game and play something else. Now when I say this, I should make it clear that there's a difference between forcing you to log in every day to grind for hours on content you HAVE to do like WoW does, and then actually having content to do every day if you WANT to do it. There shouldn't be large periods of time where there's no reason to play the game if I want to. The only reason Yoshi P said that you should take breaks when at risk of burning out was because if you do burn out, you're probably going to quit forever.

    This is an MMO.
    It isnt. Never has been.

Its a JRPG first, an MMO second.

Beast tribes are literally just a set of chores to do every day.
Lets just ignore the story content that goes with them shall we?

Manderville weapons are good for those who don't have ilv 630 weapons yet, but to get them it's literally just a tomestone grind.
You just described every relic weapon..whats your point?

This is an MMO. We're meant to be playing it a lot and thus paying the subscription fee a lot
Thats WOW. Not FF 14. Wrong mentality.

The only reason Yoshi P said that you should take breaks when at risk of burning out was because if you do burn out, you're probably going to quit forever.
    Hard disagree.

but I can't see this lasting another 2 months.
    Hard disagree.

Why not? Whats the hurry, whats the rush, whats the need to log in every day? Go play other games. The game will still be here, theres no FOMO to lose sleep over...

I dont see an issue here.

I'll assume you're referring to the story of the content we got this patch, in which case it's alright but nothing that'll last another 2 months. Oh cool some lore on Sil'dih. Cool. So uh, what now?

You assume that because something has been done before that it is good.

As I pointed out and you did not read, WoW forces you to do content you don't want to do, and FF14 should attempt to have content that you want to do for more than a week. Not really the same thing.

Disagree all you want, but you're objectively wrong. This is what I meant when I said that a lot of players misinterpreted what he said. If you read exactly what he said, it's very clear that he was talking about burn out, not content droughts.

You're going to be playing Variant dungeons in a month from now when there's no tangible reward left? Feel free to if you feel so inclined, but I can't imagine this being popular once most people have their 12 endings and all of the items they want. I guess people might farm it for the noir set to sell on the market but other than that, /shrug.

Content doesn't have to have FOMO, nor do I want it to. However, if I want to play the game more, I shouldn't feel like there's nothing left to accomplish. And no, replaying the same thing over and over or doing daily chores are not worthwhile content.

I love when people use this take because not only does it show what side said person is on but also that they're willing to put blinders on and invalidate the views of others. Noice.
    ---------------

Also, let me throw in this easily Google-able piece of information since you seem to think the game is a JRPG over an MMORPG:
    :

"Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG and features a persistent world in which players can interact with each other and the environment."

And there's, of course, this little bit that we all know by now:

"Did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime?"

If you think it really is a JRPG first then cool, your life..whatever works. Just I hope you're also aware that the vast majority dont view it that way, at least by google-able sources.

I mean...again 2 sides. All they said was they personally don't see an issue. They don't have to care past that as it doesn't effect them. No real right or wrong there.

And let's say it IS wrong. These negative topics succeed in invalidating the opinions of those who don't have issues with these things. "Don't agree with the negativity? You're a lost cause n not worth talking to". It's a circle of stupidity.

Btw regardless of what's said you're spending most of your time in xiv akin to an rpg. Xiv being an rpg with mmo elements isn't a new take. Many have said this over the years and I can't say they are wrong.

    - You don't need to care about what they say, half the time I don't care past surface level when it comes to things people bring up. Doesn't mean I just read it and go "Oh no this can't be a thing at all because I don't see the same issue." People wouldn't be bringing things up if it wasn't an issue in the first place so like...you don't have to care but don't invalidate someone else at the same time.

    - Not sure where the whole lost cause thing came from but if someone else said that then that doesn't represent me or my intentions, personally I just try to explain to people who don't see it why there is an issue and leave it at that/debate if I feel like having a big mouth that day. I'm also extremely blunt with my words so that can come off in a bad way as well. If they really don't want to see it then that's not a me problem at that point and I also tend to not get along well with those people because I prefer people who have open minds and are willing to see both sides of a situation. That's just a personal preference. But I'm not gonna be like: "Nah you're not worth my time, sorry." to people unless they resort to personal attacks.

    - XIV's biggest JRPG element to me is the MSQ, that's it. Everything else outside of that isn't. That's my opinion. If others want to say that they think it is, that's cool. Your life, whatever works. Just, I personally have not heard anyone call it a JRPG in my time playing the game, they refer to it as an MMORPG. That's just my experience and maybe it's different for other people.

Top part goes on the assumption that there IS a problem. Things being brought up doesn't automatically mean there's an issue. That's flawed logic. The only thing it means is that said person has a problem with it. Could they be right? Yes. Could they be wrong? Also yes. For example if someone complained XIV doesn't have enough music would they be correct? I'd say no especially considering the game has the world record for most music in a video game iirc.

I wasn't referring to you saying that. You must not be paying attention to the thread (or have certain folks on ignore lol). Others are doing that. Not you lol

And yeah that makes sense. I wouldn't call it a widespread thing. I wouldn't call it rare either though. Not like that a huge issue really it's just viewpoints ya know?
