I believe they mentioned making relics a little easier since they noticed that it was common for people to make multiple relics and new jobs continue to be added. Also, Hildibrand is already a large barrier to entry and it's only the first stage.

Hildebrand is not a large barrier to entry at all. It will take you 2-3 hours max if you watch cutscenes, which BTW you can skip. That's easy peasy.
