Its like...wait really? Because it would definitely mean its being rushed, and they really wanna get us started into the next Saga.

And I still very much enjoyed EW Vanilla despite its flaws, but one of its glaring issues is it did feel like they tried to do to much all at once.
EW should have solely focused on ending the Saga, instead of just 6.0.
But, idk, I guess a whole expansion dedicated to starting anew might not have worked either. But maybe EW could have been the longest running Expansion with say....6.7 or 6.8 being the ending. And then the last couple could have been to set us up.

IDK, we can sit here and talk about other things they Could have done, but its already done.
Yeah, i have a lot of issue with the idea of finishing the saga with Endwalker instead of making it two expansions.
I think it created a lot of problems, be it from pacing or story decisions. I wasn't the biggest fans of the theme of the expansion or how some characters were written either.

So i hope they decided to end it in 6.0 for a good reason, and that they have an interesting story in the work of 7.0 to justify this decision.

They did it because the length of the MSQ was getting far too long for players new to the game. It was a bit daunting to think there was so much story to have to play through to get caught up with friends.

Finishing the story arc allows them to create a new starting point for players to jump into the game without having to go through 90 levels of MSQ to catch up to long time players. Likely for the next couple of expansions, players will have a choice to start a new character at level 90 and the new story, or start from level 1 and the original ARR story.

See this is why I like talking to you. You can give your view in a completely reasonable way. I may not agree with the points but I understand it now why you would like it.

Developer 1: "Players felt the Junction and GF systems were overly complex. They didn't like it."
Developer 2: "They did? Okay, make something twice as convoluted and put it in FF9."

    A conversation that happened. ....Maybe.

On a barely related note, it fascinates me how different FFXI is from all the other titles. Some of this is obviously because it's an MMO (and borrowed heavily from EQ, like nearly all extant MMOs), but even taking that into account it's way off in left field. Some of its mechanics are still interesting to this day. Like magic bursting? I'd have loved to see something akin to that in FFXIV. Many things in XIV were clearly inspired, if not outright taken (then heavily modified) from FFXI. Pity they took so few of the really neat things.

    To sum up

The lessen we have learned are :

    1. That some people, no matter what is given them, will always sneer and say they can do better.... when they clearly cant. Dont care how many "outlines" you write, when you have the calibre and actual literary capability of writing at Natsuko-san's level, let me know.

I wont be holding my breath.

    2. That yes, the story wasnt perfect, nothing ever is, Endwalker, however, stands head and shoulders above other MMO writing, viz the massive praised heaped upon it by multiple sites and venues. I and others have enjoyed it, which stands in stark contrast to the ridiculous claims of one who says "he speaks for many".

    No.

    3. That some people will again sneer at weapons design submissions..yet cant ....or wont.....show us their own. Jonathon Livingston Seagull defined these people as the ones who enjoy clipping the wings of others...since they themselves cannot fly ( Dont laugh, read the book, you may be very surprised )

    4. That some people define "adult" as unable to enjoy simple things, with a grim, humourless , colourless worldview I thank the living God every single day I dont suffer from. The day I stop feeling that sense of wonder, of laughter, the day I cant stop to admire the many glories we see around us with the wonder and discovery of a child, the day i cant sit with a book and die laughing, the day I feel too "adult" to sit in a library and enjoy Goosebumps or Enid Blyton's beautiful books, the day I play the MSQ and spend my time dissecting it to find the flaws according to my "sensibilities of what is proper"....yeah thats the day I stop living.

    and last

    What lesson was not learned?

We did not learn the lesson offered to us by people who presume that they know better than we ourselves do. When someone sets themselves up as " Do as I say and do what I think, I know whats best for you" ( in this I hark back to an earlier comment where said person was telling us what we SHOULD play instead..that alone is beyond arrogant. Sorry, true.), that anyone could even presume to TRY and know whats best for me is ludicrous in the extreme.

Every game has flaws. Every game has things that we think could be done better, I concur, with the caveat that IF we followed that line, we would be running from pillar to post when said commentators have 10000 different ideas, none of whom can agree on any one point, all of which THEY think is the best course.

    Game design by committee??

    That way lies utter insanity.

When non-JP people start referring to others, particularly those they've never met and will never in their lives interact with, with the -san suffix, you know the conversation has run its course.

You are quite correct. The more correct term of reference would be "Natsuko-sama".

Honorifics are not just used when talking with someone. They are also used when talking about someone who may not be present with others. The latter is pretty much required, by the way, unless you are referring to a mutual friend.

"Natsuko-san" is fine as well, but I assume the original writer views Natsuko Ishikawa with some level of esteem.

The only thing they appear to get wrong is that "Natsuko" is, indeed, the family name. The Producer's family name is "Naoki".

To the poster of the quote: The discussion is indeed getting pretty thin when all you can complain about is non-Japanese players referring to Japanese people with Japanese honorifics.

Umm, no they didn’t get that wrong at all. Her family name is Ishikawa. Yoshi-P’s family name is Yoshida.

I want to believe this is trolling, but...

This is like someone coming along and telling you that Baker, Smith, Gonzalez, Weber, and Chen can only ever be given names, and that Sally, Thomas, and Juan were, in fact, the family names.

It doesn't take much familiarity, with either the name order or common family and given names themselves, to know which is which.
