Nearly every mechanic in the game pops up in some form or another in normal dungeons. What else is the game supposed to do? Higher tier content is more difficult and players jumping into that should understand that. Its on them to learn that and there's plenty of practice PF's for them to do so. Its not that big of a deal and its like this for every MMO where there's a sudden shift in difficulty at end game.

Been playing since ARR launch. I've never seen any incident where someone is told to shut up. I've made simple statements on how to resolve a mechanic and have always gotten a nice and short ok/thanks. Its not that complicated. Good example is the raids this tier in P6. New guy didn't know what to do with the snakes and I just typed "face away with snake" and he was like "ah ok" and then he did it right when it happened again. The "toxicity" is when people go overboard with their explanations and are usually crass about it.

I've been playing since Heavensward and I have been told to shut up when trying to help players in my mentor roulettes. Most recently in the newest dungeon I tried to offer a tip on the second boss and got told "you're not a god just because you do savage". But I feel it's important to point out that I can probably count the number of times I've gotten this treatment on one hand. The bulk of players either 1.don't respond or 2.are friendly and thank me for the tips. I don't think it's a huge wide spread problem, I think we're just more likely to remember if someone responded in a rude way so it seems like a bigger problem than it is. If someone's running into hostility a lot after giving advice they might want to re-evaluate how they're giving that advice.

As for the "read tooltips" suggestion to teach people how to play, I don't think I've ever read a tooltip in this game haha I cleared 2 ultimates and 6 savage tiers without ever reading one. But I read guides on jobs I want to play because a tooltip just doesn't give me the exact information I want. A guide gives me more context so I absorb the info better and have a better idea of when to use what. But obviously a whole in game guide isn't feasible. I would rather they just update Hall of the Novice and make it mandatory for new players. People absorb info better by actually doing stuff so a more in depth Hall of the Novice would be nice.

First off. Please do not be so patronizing. "It's not that complicated"? Yes, I am aware it's not that complicated. You saw what I wrote, in the exact same tone as how I write in-game because I know, especially now more than ever, that if I say anything wrong to an already flustered or ignoring sprout, I'm not going to win any favours. So please, keep those comments to yourself. Complicated had nothing to do with it.

And secondly, I think you misjudge. If people ask me for something that requires a bit of elaboration, I sum it up first, and then provide an explanation later. I don't start barging in with "You have to do this, this and that at this hour, this time, this place, this mindset". No, at worst I just say "Try using this cooldown first, it helps more than the others". If they ask why, then I elaborate. Especially since more often than not I'm healing through pulls and I have better stuff to do. Typing while autorunning is still slow xD

Again. Great that you have been playing since ARR. For real. But I've been playing for far less than you guys and I've already been hit with those cases, and have also seen people approach players normally and being snapped back at it. At no point were we rude. At no point were people accusatory. Often people just want to help.

I really don't understand this fixation with "I've been playing since ARR\1.0". Do you want a cookie for that, guys...? A title, a medal? Playtime doesn't necessarily imply authority. Great, you've been playing and haven't seen that. Congratulations to you, it means you didn't meet people who would get defensive the moment they were approached for everyone to see. And I hope you continue not seeing it. Again, probably a datacenter thing, who knows, maybe EU people are rude. Though I doubt it. But don't dismiss experiences simply because you have been playing for longer and haven't encountered instances of this. Different playstyles, different situations. You are not any better, so don't say things like "it's not that complicated" as if we were doing something wrong. Odds are we're doing the same as you. And in my experience? Being so snippy with "face away with snake" does often help, yes... but guess what, I have also seen it happen to a friend of mine where he does it and people thought he was judging them. It was no different than what you want people to do. Yet it still happened. Again: I'm sorry, but you are not doing anything special.

Exactly, even if they did read tooltips, what's to say they're even understanding what's on there?
I don't think Square understands how their game works to such a level as to make detailed guides for jobs that have some unintended clunk. But if they were to make those guides, they should make them mandatory to go through at some point. If anything so that people can at least have a baseline of know-how before tackling the game. It's fun to explore and all that, but if exploration stifles that minimum know-how, then it's just a hassle.

The better way to approach helping someone is to say "would you mind a suggestion that will make things easier/more enjoyable when playing your job?" then leave it up to them whether they want the advice. People tend to be more receptive when allowed to choose instead of having it forced on them or when you express it as wanting to help them have more fun.
Adding onto this, it's also CYA. If you ask first and you get agreement, then it's there in the logs that you weren't trying to force anything or create a bad environment or dictate to people, etc. Asking first is polite, respectful of the player, keeps control in their hands, and can help make them receptive to assistance. But it also protects the one trying to help.

LOL, this too. Party wipes and you offer up "Is there anything I can explain to help" and so many are often like "YES. PLEASE"

Tooltips often do not explain how abilites interact with other abilities of the same class or other classes.

Some tooltips are misleading. Example: Before DRK QOL in 6.1 Bloodweapon duration stated 10s when it was actually 9s

It is extremely important to read tooltips but they do not explain the whole story and even with some players playing content they wont understand until other players explain it to them. However the same time FFXIV has many job changes yearly including tooltips so its hard for them to develop a hall of intermediate or something that can assist players because it would require constant upkeep.
Tooltips encourage WHM's to use cure 1. One of the SMN abilities made no sense and I had to ask in my FC what the heck it does.

Only if you don't think about what it is you're doing. A 1 in 7 chance shouldn't be attractive, especially given how most dungeon runs go.
