Mentor Roulette needs a serious overhaul

    Greetings,

Id say the title really gives it away. The current state of Mentor Roulette is completely outdated and 90% of the content that you queue into, has nothing to do with being a Mentor.
If it was renamed "Fill-Roulette", itd be a much more fitting title.
The only times where a Mentor can actually help and guide new players, is when we are queued into a synced extreme fight, maybe arguably even a normal trial/raid.
(That is to say people actually listen/follow advice, which we will just assume they do in this post (harassment and ridiculing mentors could be its very own post)).

A seasoned player will not be able to help somebody in a guildhest/regular dungeon or something like castrum meridianum, honestly, the game does a well enough job to teach each player how it works/how it wants to be played. The only aspects that a Mentor can usually address are basic concepts like using aoe spells on multiple mobs or using your cooldowns correctly, but again, the game has a built in system for each role that does a sufficient job.

Now heres my idea: Make 2 new roulettes.
Like mentioned eariler, Fill-Roullette, which would replace the current Mentor Roullette.
Exact same content, completely random and you would just fill spots that are hard to come by otherwise.
New Mentor Roullette, would work via the party finder.
No more hard-queueing extremes, only via PF.
Now, people that help out such groups actually join as a guide/mentor, prepared.
I also suggest increased rewards for such effort, as it can take a good amount of time to help such groups out, especially if you have to explain the entire encounter from start to finish.

This idea is by no means finished and might leave much to be desired before it can actually make it into the game, but I hope this at least sparks a discussion or directs SEs attention to the problem.

Tldr: Mentors are supposed to help and guide new players, not be the fill for content nobody else wanted to do.

I think mentor roulette should be renamed and accessible to max lvl players who don't have any particular roulette to queue to.

Never going to happen. A SE doesn't want a general purpose roulette. B that would require a rework of fully functional and stable systems, party finder and duty finder. C direct opposition to JP servers. D there's a thread that says the game doesn't teach basic fundamentals well enough that's fairly recent.

Normally, it's old dungeons. Old dungeons normally have 1 or more sprouts whose first time it is. So it has everything to do with being a Mentor because you can help them out if they are nervous or confused.

The only times where a Mentor can actually help and guide new players, is when we are queued into a synced extreme fight, maybe arguably even a normal trial/raid.
Sometimes I do this, but sometimes there is no hope for them to clear it and any advice would be pointless because they obviously queued into it when they barely could do the mechanics or a rotation in a normal mode because they are still new. But I wipe with them for an hour just in case they have a massive improvement. The only reason they actually clear them usually is because the echo stacks build up enough to survive mechanics and kill the boss faster.

No more hard-queueing extremes, only via PF.
I think the culture is different in Japan though.

The content may teach them things, but they can't complete that content if nobody queues for it with them. You can help that player by completing the content with them.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

They should delete guildhests from the DF. Make it a trust only, one-time affair.

Yeah, it is pretty obsolete. A fill roulette and the removal of the mentor system - at least in it's current form - and/or all rewards from it would most likely be the best solution.

Yes & no. They use PF like we do for practice but swap to DF once they're ready for quick clears & farms.

So yeah, removal of hard-queueing for DF extremes in general won't happen cause that'll be screwing over how JP does things. However if they could do it by region where JP can still have hard queues and NA doesn't, that could be a compromise.
