I would give up my med for a triple-sized apt

I use an apartment as a testing zone before I tear down the décor in my medium house, and all I keep thinking is, "Gee, I would love to have no stairs or windows to work around in my home." Honestly, all I want is a Giant. Blank. Box. Double high, triple wide apartments with no windows or rafters or pillars. Let me build my own layout. Maybe make much larger lofts to make it easier, but I'd love to just design the whole thing.

I'm game for this as well. It's the size that's the primary problem with making apartments a more appealing option to a house for players.

Imagine an apartment the size of a mansion basement (but taller as Devotions said). That would be a wonderful space for creativity.

I would be all for this too except for one thing. Working with lofts is an INCREDIBLE pain in the butt. In order to make this properly work without causing people massive headaches the developers would also have to redesign the furnishing system to be full 3 axis.

They won't rework it- that would require someone who actually partakes in the housing to finally fix it.
Or getting a large amount of the JP community in an uproar over the placement & item limits

The best thing to use instead of lofts are carpets/ rugs or making sure the loft 'snap' area is facing inward towards the center of the room, instead of outward to the walls

I am all for fixing the item placement btw

I tend to lean in this direction too on the idea, the biggest problem with a large, single floor area, is there is no way to float anything up from underneath.

I'd happily get rid of the top floor in 100% of the cases, and the basement if we could move stuff on Z to the point we can half bury it into the void. Stuff like a sunk hingan bookshelf as a small table, or bamboo dropped below the floor to make an indoor garden looks too good to lose.

This is the exact solution which would actually help remedy housing. It absolutely baffles me how they thought a glorified FC room would be the fix everyone would be excited for. And they genuinely did think people would be okay with it given how completely shocked they were when complaints poured in almost immediately.

It seems so easy to just make apartments bigger. I'm not sure why they don't. Personally, if apartments had some kind of outdoor space and were big enough to have multiple rooms I would rather have that than a house.

I'm not sure I would prefer that personally. Doing my first house I did indeed use up much of my item limit working around the existing architecture, replacing walls etc. But during this process I discovered that these existing limits can also be an inspiration. Some of the best designs I've seen others make, while they may totally replace the base architecture do lean into it heavily as an inspiration or reference. We wouldn't have ended up where we are if the starting point had been a blank box. Just my 2cents and ymmv . Apartments for testing layouts and designs are a great idea! Until they give us instanced housing and all the space we need .
