Your characters and such are stored server side on the world server that you played on and when you reset the game client is "forgets" which world server you were logging into.
So, all you have to do is select the Crystal data center and Coeurl world server from the server selection screen and you will then see your characters.
I was so scared in the moment that I didn't think to get beyond the generic mothercrystal cutscene to find my characters still there. After two installations, my game is saved and I can log back in. Thank you!
