Every once in a while, I have had issues involving Directx11 and random crashes. This time seems to be the worst episode. I was playing just fine last night, no issues at all, when suddenly my game just closed without warning. I was standing around Rhalgr's Reach when it happened.
Upon trying to relog in, I notice a stutter whenever loading the title screen. I select my character and attempt to log in. Everything is fine... until the Directx11 crash logs run and will not let me get beyond the loading screen. I can't even get control over my character before it crashes.
I decide that my first course of action should be a simple restart; not that its worked in the past, but I do just that to cover my bases. Still no luck after the restart.
My second course of action would be to go into the launcher itself and disable Directx11. However, it crashes in the exact same spot on the login; I cannot even get control of my character before it crashes with similar error codes.
I check my display adapters and drivers with Driver Boost. According to that, they are all up to date.
Begrudgingly, I decided to reinstall the entire game, hoping that it would fix itself with a clean reinstall. I let it run overnight. Come morning, it still crashes in the loading screen, with and without Directx11 enabled.
In my half-asleepedness, I took a coworker's advice and picked the option to reset my system settings through the launcher. I did not notice the backup option right above that until after I clicked the reset button.
And now... I log into the launcher, I launch the game, and it treats it like I am a new player. None of my characters are there. The lodestone and the forums still showing my characters seem to suggest that my character files are safe, for now at least, but I no longer have access to them through the game.
And now I have hit restore game data, but I am unsure if this will restore my character files to where they belong or overwrite everything. Either way, the installation will take all evening. And I am afraid that I might have accidentally lost 2000+ hours and several hundred dollars to the aether, all over Directx11 randomly crashing.
If anyone can offer insight or help me find a way to get my characters back, and to help me fix this annoying Directx11 issue, I would be immensely grateful.
