Castrum Abania and the trolling healer.

Leveling up an alt job at the moment, my Gunbreaker. Queued for Castrum Abania, took about 10 minutes to get a group. We went in, and I pulled first pack, popped Nebula, realized the healer was casting nothing, so I layered Rampart and Camouflage, to get get the extra parry chance on top of the 20% reduction. I eventually died. At that point the healer decided to heal himself and the 2 dps, but eventually wiped.

I asked why he wasn't casting anything, and he stated "Guess it must be server lag". We started over, I pulled first pack again. Again I layered Camouflage on Nebula this time, assuming I would keep the parry chance and have 30% damage reduction. Healer pulled a second pack to us, then cast Benefic 2 one time.

I eventually died and healed himself and the dps through the rest of the pack, then proceeded to vote dismiss me after stating "I guess you should upgrade your gear"

For reference, I was 15 points above recommended Item level. I also have a 90DK, 90SCH, 90WHM, and a 90Sage. I have played with "bad healers" and "bad tanks" and the dungeon is always easily cleared. In the 4.5 minutes we were in the dungeon, he cast "benefic 2" 6 times, and Gravity twice.

Reviewing combat log, I was able to get 2-3 heals off Brutal Shell, before even 1 Benefic 2 was cast on me. So, over 6 GCDs without him using anything on me.

If I were a sprout, and didn't know this guy was obviously trolling, I would never play a tank again. Or worst case scenario, uninstall the game.

Still annoying that he convinced 2 other people to boot me from a dungeon 5 minutes in, because he didn't want to play the role he queued for.

Second report I have ever made in the years I've been playing.

This guy was straight griefing.

See... I'm not good (I don't heal Savages, for example), but I definitely love playing tricks on my friends with Astro. Because AST has so much burst healing and delayed healing, it's ridiculous. Grand Dominance is almost as much as a Benefic 2. Essential Dignity is more than that at 30% health or less, and we have 2 stacks of it. Macrocosmos goes brr. Horoscope is half a Benefic 2 on everyone, and that's not even counting stuff like regens, Neutral Sect or Synastry. Or Celestial Intersection and Exaltation. Or Lady... So because I know that at around 30% health Essential Dignity is going to heal for more than Benefic 2, I tend to be rather "lazy" when I heal. It's the usual "I don't need to top you off, just keep you alive" mindset. So I can see how if I were in a party with a random tank, my playstyle wouldn't be taken well at all. Which is why I don't do it, even if it means I'm doing less than I otherwise would be.

But that guy didn't cast a single Dignity. He didn't deploy any Earthly Star. Zero shields either. No regens whatsoever. He spammed Benefic 2. That's almost as bad as spamming Benefic to proc the crit.

I don't know how he managed to convince two people you're the problem. Because anyone with a pair of eyes can see whether or not the tank is even using cooldowns or not. But yeah, nah, if the person really didn't do their job and resorted to doing this, then not only were they griefing, the people who support them have been inflicted with Blind.

I don't know which is worse tbh. The fact that people are allowed to do this with no consequence at higher levels (from healers who spam Cure 1, healers like this, tanks who don't use cooldowns or DPS who don't AoE), or the fact that other people are just as clueless.

I have run into some very...strange people in DF, like tanks who put on glam gear then demand to be vote-kicked if you're not willing to put up with their non-existent HP pool/defenses.

Healers who think tanks don't need healing are on a similar end of the weirdness spectrum.

Unless the other two were friends of his or atleast one other person. All they need to vote kick is one other person to vote yes in 4 man content because 1 vote for the person who started it and one more to pass since it's a 3 person vote.

Did not know it only takes 2. I don't vote to dismiss anyone unless they leave for 10 minutes without saying anything. Regardless, I was annoyed.

That's the real issue tbh. Unless you go out of your way to actually learn how to play your role, the game will keep you as clueless as the day you started. Outside of Hall of the Novice (which itself is outdated af) there is nothing in game to actually teach you how to play. That's how we end up with "tank mains" that wouldn't know how to pop a single cd to save their own life let alone others, "healer mains" that think freecure fishing and Medica 2 spam is the absolute peak of healing, and dps that think they can combo single target skills into aoe skills (big shoutout to the dragoon I saw spamming uncomboed Chaos Thrust into Sonic Thrust, you a real one).

It's such an ingrained issue that at this point digging it out would be more trouble than it's worth. God help your soul if you try to point anything out, it's a 50/50 shot whether they'll tweak out and call you a sweaty tryhard or outright ignore you.

That healer clearly has a problem if they only use Benefic II a couple of times and didn't use anything else. Honestly makes me suspicious some healers are bots that were just placed in queue to make it seem as if healers are not in need...

Though my question is how you managed to get a pack of enemies and activate Brutal shell 2-3 times. Last I checked, Brutal shell healing didn't proc on Demon Slice & Demon Slaughter. Were you not using AoEs either?

Best thing to do in that scenario is not pop more than 1 extra mitigation when using Nebula since it's going to mess up the healer's heal plan anyway for the later pulls and assume healer has everything under control, and just continue to AoE. If you die and you get booted out after doing everything right, just report. No need to stress out and adjust too much and waste all your cds immediately, or it could look like you're also griefing the DPS who does AoE and ends up getting aggro as well. Perhaps this is why the DPS and the healer booted you out.

I can understand their confusion. They probably aren't used to healing leveling dungeons. They are completely different than healing most dungeons.

Most dungeons sync 40 or more item level above them so the healing is completely braindead or not even needed. But once you step into leveling dungeons the rules are a lot different and I doubt this is a nuance understood by a lot of new players that don't pay attention to small details like this.

I read Brutal Shell and for some reason I thought they were talking about Heart of Corundum. You're right! OP, explain.
