I have a question: while it would have been great to have more than two new people be duty support and hang out with (I was pulling for Leofard myself), who should they have been? I mean, if you want to be technical, we really haven't had Estinien that long compared to Y'shtola. I'm looking at it in terms of expanding the amount of represented races/jobs/personalities in the cast here, and... well, it kinda depends on who's not there. For argument's sake, going by 'full complement of Scions plus Zero and these new guys' and throwing logistical questions aside for the moment...
1. We have literally NO physical ranged DPS. Reflexively Hilda would do great for that and has been long overdue for a promotion in story prominence, but I think I'd actually want someone more like Captain Lyna; a race, job and skin tone we don't have, and from a very different social stratum and culture.
2. The other gap we have is tanks; it's only Thancred, G'raha, and Varshahn when he's relevant (but I doubt he's around for next expansion), with two of those being all-rounders. And... honestly, while I'm not sure I'd like him being around for a whole expansion, it's hard to find a better clean sweep of all kinds of 'things we don't have' than Magnai. If we tap into job quests Curious Gorge (or perhaps a more serious sibling) could do just as well, and if we didn't already have a Gunbreaker then Rostik from the GNB job questline and Bozja would be top of my list.

Runner-up goes to Sadu, who I think everyone would be delighted to have around for a full 'party member' role, but sadly is a job that we already have on hand, so if we got her people would just be asking why we aren't using Y'shtola. Also Cirina, who'd be almost as good as someone like Lyna, but a constant bugbear I've both got and seen others raise is just how white the Scions are, and sadly her skin is even whiter than theirs so going with her wouldn't exactly solve that problem.

I don't think we should be afraid of entirely new characters being added, because we know they're good at making them. But using existing characters just for comparison's sake, yeah, those are the sorts of people I think would be good for a main cast alongside the Scions. I genuinely think the Scions have been a strength of the game so far--having a core cast that's basically a bunch of huge nerds looking for thoughtful, organized and when-possible-peaceful solutions really helped foster the story's development in that direction--but they're fairly homogenous in a bunch of ways that'd be quite fixable by adding characters that break from their norm.

I don't like Magnai either, and Sadu would probably lose her appeal after a while, but if the question is 'who should join the core party to change it from what we know', those two are REALLY high up there.

To actually look at it all, I've tallied up the races, subraces and jobs we don't have right now, which I thought would be the best place to start in answering the question of 'who should join the existing cast'.

*We still have those people but they main different jobs now. Ninja is admittedly complicated but I think a new Ninja Trust member would be compared to Ryne over Thancred.

Blue Mage (if you count it)

Damn, the Scions really have some tanxiety going on, huh? And I admit it's a little iffy with Samurai, but I think Gosetsu and Hien were around long enough to count that.

Make that worthless gobshite clown actually do something. He's got the spells, he can go toe-to-toe with Primals, make him put in some actual legwork.

From some interviews I've seen, it looks like Krile will get a new job next expansion and join us. Likely as a caster, but it could be ranged. (That's supposing we get two DPS jobs next expanision, which is the most likely, but the devs can do whatever they want.)

Geomancer Krile please and thank you. We already have precedent of jobs sharing names with other practices (Astrologian and Sage, in particular), and Geomancer would fit her both as an offensive caster helping her deal with her insecurities, and a nod to FFV where she originated. AND an attack-mage GEO can be from the New World and just coincidentally be called such wihtout being tied to the Othardian version.

That or Time Mage would be a good call back to FFV, as both originated in that game. Either way, I feel like it should take over the DoT mage position Summoner no longer has.

Really hoping the other job we get (if we get 2 jobs) other than whatever Krile has is a Scouting job, preferably with the reverse of RDM. Instead of casting spells to power their melee burst, it's melee to power up their casting burst.
