Maintenance on Halloween?

Soo with the new NA DC there is likely to be 24h maint, right? The 24h before its launched? As in OVER HALLOWEEN DAY?!

Its either that or move it to another date, at which the NA players will STILL complain.

You have been asking for new datacentres for ages, the 24 hr maint is to make sure they are up and running in time. It has to be done SOMETIME.

Despite whatever holidays there are overseas, the SE team operates on their OWN timetable. It gets done when it needs to get done, its as simple as that.

But halloween night is specific.

We have had maint during OUR holidays as well, 25 January to 26 January is / was our Australia Day, which is for us a major event. I empathise, but you need to very much bear in mind that the teams work on their own schedule, if they were to shift that timetable to accommodate every holiday overseas, nothing would ever get done.

Ill restate this and it needs to be remembered

The teams have a schedule for work to get done, dates, times, timetables, dev team coordination, the entire megillah. They may be aware of that date, they may not, either way dev work, maintenance, new servers, patches, all of it happens at a specific time that is blocked out to get the task done start to finish.

You just answered your own question. Square Enix is a JAPANESE company. Almost 1/3 of the players are Japanese. Yoshida is Japanese. They have no reason to cater to us whatsoever. If you don’t appreciate their culture, don’t play their game. It’s that simple. Plenty of American games have Halloween events. You don’t go to Japan to promote gaijin no gomi and FFXIV is no different.

Halloween exists in Europe as well, and it has roots in/influences from European folklores and cultures. Such as the Lemuria feast of ancient Rome, Samhain, and Allhallowtide season. Ironically Americans tend to make a much bigger deal about it than modern Europeans do. And Japan doesn't have a harvest festival with spiritual/afterlife associations the way the western world has, so for them this is mostly some cute thing that happens and they make merchandise for and call it a day. Kind of like April Fool's. So naturally they wouldn't find any major meaning in it, especially not when the continent that essentially made it doesn't give a darn about it anymore.

Then postpone it, lol.
It's not that hard but then again the hardest part is convincing the SE defense force that maintenance during a holiday that is recognized throughout most of the world (doubly so on the server region that you are knocking out~) is a bad idea. Though I wonder what part of that decision was made by the JP devs or the Califorina gatekeepers in the west.
