Yeah, I've talked about this before too. I even remember prior to EW there being talk of losses, and a lot of people thought it was Thancred's time too, but then we got literally every scion.. After Estinien it got kind of comical, and then they started playing the music too!

I really can’t understand who thought that story was a good idea…when Alisae started shouting (again) and crying I was just like “dude you’ll be back in the next cutscene what are you yelling about”…
It really feels as if they must think ffxiv players are that stupid to believe they kill all the scions at once.
When Thancred was gone I actually got emotional but after that I just had a dead eyed “seriously bro” face until the end of the story.

In all seriousness, go around the internet. Check out YT. Check out Reddit (of all places). A ton of people loved the story. Yes, we "knew" the Scions were coming back. That doesn't stop you from RP'ing in an RPG (I know, what a concept!). Knowing that the "good guys will win" doesn't mean nobody has any investment in a story. Practically every blockbuster movie in existence has a script where you know the protagonists will survive and be the victors; that doesn't stop people from loving the story. Heck, it can even help people who get really into a story keep going sometimes.

That music has become one of the most popular pieces in the entire game. Check out the vid on YT where 1,000 people sent in videos that were edited together to make a fan-made version of the song. It wasn't "comical" to most people - it was deep, and made a real impact.

That argument feels a lot like when my friend tried to get me into a lot of games now a days. "Oh, don't worry about the beginning, the game gets good around the 40 hour mark!", why would I slog through 40 hours of the boring part just to get to the part that might make me go "Oh cool, that's neat." lol
While I personally enjoyed even that beginning part, when a game has several hundred hours of content, I'd have no problem going through a smaller "boring" part at the beginning to then have many times over that amount in amazing gameplay that just keeps getting better...

I can't for the life of me figure out why all of them survived. I can understand SE not wanting to kill every Scion, since some players do indeed like them quite a bit, but at least one or two of them should probably have stayed dead.
You answered your own question. All of the Scions at this point are quite popular with the general playerbase. Killing a character off for the sake of killing a character off would serve only to seriously alienate fans of that character. TV history is littered with the remains of shows that went downhill when they lost an important character (either written off, changed actors/actresses, etc.). The number of people who would be "pleased" by the death of a Scion pales completely in comparison to the number of people who would be turned off by it.

Those are okay arguments but all i'm getting from it is "Spectacle over substance". Yes, the average person would rather have flash but is that really the bar that should be set for entertainment as a whole?
    *Looks at the money*
    Oh yeah, lol.

It's not their main focus, but they've gotta be given something to do while the tank performs their primary function for them. A lack of DPS buttons would be less of an issue if not for the sheer lack of healing needed in anything below an EX trial. Granted, I very much love WAR's ability to bulldoze through dungeons without any care whether or not the healer or DPS are even in the same area code, but if that's gonna be happening then healers definitely need more buttons of other types to press.

    Nerf Warrior...chaos ensues
Like I think in Shadowbringers they wernt the best tank for a while...people didnt like that. So they made Warrior the best again.
And now in Endwalker its so good, people think Healers arnt needed anymore. Warrior just...ugh. XD

WAR is far from the best tank. It excels at a single thing: self-sustain. Its damage blows compared to DRK and GNB, and even PLD seems to be beating it in this regard after the last round of changes. Even its mitigation isn't stellar, though I'll grant it does mitigate better, ironically, than PLD.

I'm genuinely curious, as someone still learning about the strengths and weaknesses of each tank job: which one would you consider the "best"? Is it based off of mitigation, dps, or both? Does it depend on the type of content it is being used in?

I'd say DRK has awesome dps, but it's a bit too squishy for my taste in comparison to the others. I could see GNB being the winner, though.

My personal opinion would be that GNB is the best tank overall. It's got good damage, some self-sustain, strong mitigation tools, and some nice utility besides. DRK dominates in terms of damage and raw mitigation, but those are all it has. It ends up feeling terrible to play (and heal) in dungeons due to its seeming hyper-focus on those two things, while GNB can perform all content at all levels without issue.

WAR is held back in high-end content by its relatively low damage, and PLD is crippled overall by a combination of not fitting the current two-minute burst meta (although this is likely to be fixed with the upcoming rework), lack of self-synergy (hopefully also to be fixed), and the weakest personal and group mitigation out of all the tanks.

Thank you! I'm still leveling my GNB, but I agree with you overall. It's been a fun class to play so far, although I'm still learning my rotation.

That's fair. I enjoy the feeling and healing of WAR, but I see how its low dps can become a hindrance in high-end content. It's my go-to for MSQ content.

PLD...well, I don't hate it, but it feels clunky. I leveled it while trying to learn tanking (since it is considered to be the easiest tank job to learn), but I stopped after a while.

Once again, thank you for your input! If I ever start playing high-end content, then I know which tank I'm going for (GNB).
