It usually boils down to concern for one's privacy. Whether appropriate or unfounded, not everyone is comfortable with their mains being out there. Sometimes it's just a wanting to keep a low profile thing. Or, y'know, someone outspoken about their opinions might be concerned about possible in-game fallout. Could be any number of reasons.

In all my years of being called a white knight on the forums, I've had 1 person message me in game to tell me I was embarrassing Balmung... Balmung did a good enough job of that on its own. That was like.. 8 years ago lol.

I think I remember in the Asmongold interview Yoshida talking about preferring hardcore or oldschool mmorpgs, and, of course, he is very busy.

I was talking about this on Discord, but I think IS would have been better received if it wasn't such a highlight for the expansion, and I feel like the only reason it was, is due to the lack of actual content (so far). On it's own, it's some average novelty content, if it had released alongside, soon after, or just prior to more lasting content it definitely would have been better received.

I've been lucky enough that I've had a decent amount of forum lurkers or a couple regulars message or chat me up in-game, and it was all positive.

At any rate, common or uncommon, it's a concern some people have. Right off hand I can think of one fellow that got kicked out of his FC because he said in a forum post something to the effect of Stormblood's story was so bad it made him want to fellate an ignition-based force multiplier. I'm quite certain that example is as rare as it is egregious, but the fact it happened at all lends credence to the idea people keeping their mains hidden is, at the very least, not without merit.

Man it shows how many people don't know that you have to opt out in showing what mounts and minions you have via your lodestone profile. It's how when in the past people who have made threads about how they feel a past savage tier was crap yet have a more recent date attached to said clear achievement. Which you also have to opt out of showing them to everyone.

Achievements are opt in, hidden by default. I didn't think you could hide mounts/minions.

Yes you can set a lot of your profile to private. Either way those settings most don't even bother with as they tend to rarely visit the lodestone let alone their own profile. And if they do there are still many who don't choose to go and fiddle around with said profile. I just wish it would show which orchestrion rolls people have. For the rare time friends have given me a gift they would also give me a roll or two if they knew what few I don't own. It's why if it's not some lv 1 glamor item they end up gifting me a mount or minion. Also helps a lot when you're doing a secret Santa.
