Unrestricted jobs in Castrum - no tomes

So, I need ironworks gear for another job. I have a 64 GNB with full Shire Gear.

If I do unrestricted runs of most Dungeons I get loot.

But I just did a Unrestricted run of Castrum and no tomes. I don't see anywhere in Duty finder page where it says that. And that seems inconsistent with my getting all gear drops from any other dungeon I run. For example, I did a few runs unrestricted of Aurum Vale to get gear and that was fine of course. Got the lvl 47 gear for my job. Nicely polished green gear.

So what's the deal? Isn't that inconsistent from a game philosophy point of view?

Also, the duty page says that "Limited jobs... unrestricted jobs.". So if a BluMage solo's Castrum as unrestricted, does it not get tomes? Or does BLU get tomes and GNB does not?

Nice touch tho - I got a message when I started saying that my HP / Damage / healing was +200%. Didn't expect that.

With so many jobs in the game, it seems unnecessary to "Time Gate" tomes if you have a high level job. A new role / job needs about 3700 tomes for a set of gear. That's about a week of Main Seq runs isn't it?

What are your thoughts?

You get loot but not rewards if you unsync dungeons.
So you'll get the stuff that drops from chests, but nothing will drop from mobs or bosses themselves, and that's where tomes come from.

Interesting. I guess I'm supposed to spam Snow-cloak for the Antique pieces to get armor for another job. Hum.... I'll go try that with unrestricted with my GNB and see what I get for drops. That looks like it will take fewer runs anyway.

Yeah. Sure. Those are the "Mechanics" maybe. But it could have been anyway they wanted. I'm just saying that it's apparently not consistent with other "Drops" in unrestricted dungeons.

You shouldn't need to, every job that starts below 50 gets a full set of Antique gear when you do the level 50 job quest.

Yes. I remember that. But it's not very good gear is it? More like 90 rather than 130, right? Just got most of a set of Antique drops from Snowcloak in 16 minutes. Guess I'll check those parts out. Those are ilvl 90 as I recall. Oh, that's interesting. I got none of the other drops from Snowcloak. None of the Hero accessories. iLevel 90 I guess. So looks like drops are completely inconsistent. in Unrestricted, some dungs give full Treasure chest drops - Aurum vale for example, and some apparently do not - like Snowcloak where I did not get any of the rings / neck / bracelets etc. but only the Antique parts. Guess I'll span it a couple more times and see what's up. Looks like I might try Dusk Vigil next and see what happens.

Earlier dungeons are more RNG in what they drop. I just done an unrestricted run of snowcloak and you do indeed get accessories.

If you want to spam a dungeon for tomes, your best bet is Aetherochemical Research Facility. It still gives the best tome payout per run, not counting roulettes.

However, I wouldn't worry too much about fully gearing job at 50/60/70/80 as you can still level through them quickly, so spending loads of time on acquiring gear is a waste.

Unrestricted mode does not affect coffers or loot from coffers.

But I just did a Unrestricted run of Castrum and no tomes.

Unrestricted mode prevents drops directly from enemies, including experience and tomestones.

This is because of the stat squish. We used to simply be better geared and destroy the content, but after the stat squish we wouldn't be as powerful and able to destroy it as much, so they decided to add an "Epic Echo" buff to make us as powerful as we would have been before the stat squish. This was necessary because the unrestricted setting is extremely popular because it makes content easy and the majority of players like easy content, especially farming old extremes for the mounts with the unrestricted setting. Once certain content is "old", you also get a buff called "The Echo" when you die which helps make sure players don't get stuck or find it too hard.

For gearing at lower levels with tomestones, I would recommend running roulettes for them and pvp. Since this games pvp is so approachable now it's very easy to get into Frontlines of CC to farm wolf marks to buy leveled gear at the pvp vendor, if you need an alternative source for gearing. You get a lot of marks too as well as the gear being cheap so it literally only takes like a few matches to get a full set.

This is what I'm currently doing on an alt who's going through the msq progress very slowly and unlocking all jobs before moving on into post ARR and it's been very effective imo.

The only tome payouts that occur when running something undersized is if you or someone in your party has a newcomer/first time bonus to that specific instance.

For fast tomes I'd recommend the daily roulettes, Wondrous Tails and as mentioned running Atherochemical Research Facility.
