Please don't harass people for ignoring/disliking the story

Hopefully 7.0 gives enough of a lore break that the devs can allow new players to level up in a potential new zone that dumps them off at the start of latest xpac instead.

I really hope the devs think of doing that.
I have a couple friends that are interested to play, but don't want to deal with 4 expansions worth of story right away.

I love the story, but i get that, it's overwhelming. A jumping point in the modern FFXIV would be nice.
Playing catching up while your friends enjoy a new expansion can make you feel left out.

I need to stress that if you love the story and think more people should experience it, that's fine. I also need to stress that I'm not talking about players who skip everything & write essays about how bad the story is. Those people are dumb, and I honestly don't think they're common enough to be worth complaining about.

What I want to highlight is the alarming number of players who think it's okay to literally bully people for not being invested in the story. I recognize that much of the community loves the narrative, and that it's a considerably large component of the game. But it's not the only thing it has to offer, and you don't have to care about the writing at all to enjoy it as an MMO.

People are not going to enjoy the same things you do, and that's okay. People are also going to enjoy things different from how you enjoy them, and you need to be okay with that. Bullying people for playing it the 'wrong' way doesn't give any life-changing realization about the narrative. It just builds resentment and makes folks even less likely to play it the way you personally feel is 'correct.' Or worse, they'll quit playing entirely, even if they otherwise enjoy the core gameplay. And that's not a good thing.

I'm a little biased because I'm speaking from personal experience, having faced the brunt of this harassment myself. It doesn't matter how important the story is, or that it's 'a Final Fantasy game first,' harassing people for having personal preferences should not be acceptable behavior.

Has anyone told you that you're an absolute barbarian? A beast that immediately disregards other's opinions for no reason other than the fact that you disagree. You don't even bother to attempt to create any legitimate reasoning for it.

I don't agree with someone simply saying, "Story bad" as loudly as they can and acting proud of it, but I don't believe they deserve to be harassed for it either. And I especially don't think anyone that takes the time to formulate well throughout critique deserves to be harassed either. Generally speaking, no one deserves to be harassed or treated poorly for any reason.

Funny, we could change the criteria to “if you don’t raid and beat your chest about it you deserve to be harassed” and the entire narrative would change.

Harrasment is never deserved. Nor is berating someone for not liking something you do.

The story feels very straight forward, with a bit of, "Filler Story." mixed in. All seemed to follow a repeating narrative.

Explore > Discover Enemy > Find Enemy > Kill Enemy > Self/Place Discovery. (Repeat.)

Sprinkle in a bit of, Fetch Quests, Talking to random NPCs, and Filler Questlines (Crystal Tower.)

I haven't really been, surprised by anything really, I've played plenty of other MMO's that seem to carry the same routine in their stories.

Personally i dont think anyone has the right to force their opinions on anyone whether the like or dislike something but my question is how do other players know whether another player is a skipper or hates the story? Clearly people must have been vocal. So really not knowing the situation you are talking about or hell even if you might have been viewing a discussion as bullying.

As for burgers in medieval times, what part of the game shows that? Maybe I missed a posting?
