Most players I have seen in Dal have Lost Actions. However, they tend not to use Essences. I am guessing mostly due to essences lasting only the whole time they are in the instance before leaving.

It can also be pure bad luck with essences. A few times I've intended to go in with essences, didn't have the right ones, appraised a whole stack and got nothing but duds for roles I don't play.
With all due respect, this sounds like an issue of simply not preparing essentials.
Cheapest for enhancing damage:
- Tank: Martialist - obtained by farming wildlife in Southern Front Zone 1 (recommendation are the Rank III mata mata if you have lifesteal, otherwise Rank II tend to do)
- Healer: Aetherweaver - see Martialist, Ordained see below
- DPS: Skirmisher + Ordained - farm wildlife in Southern Front Zone 2
Cheapest for survival:
- Tank: Guardian - see Skirmisher
- Healer & Caster: Veteran - see Martialist
- Physical DPS: Platebearer - see Martialist
Healer build stuff:
- Essence of Savior: see Martialist
- Cure II & Cure IV: Undeads in Southern Front Zone 3
Banners of damage / support / take your pick: do Skirmishes / 'Critical Engagements' in Zone 3 of Southern Front
As listed above, there is a bucketload of essences you can farm and go for that are easy to obtain - no need to get the top tier stuff at all times.
Granted the info is mostly on stuff you might need to google, but it takes just a bit of time to farm the stuff. Some of it is extremely silly to farm even, like anything related to Elementals can just be done by unequipping armour and using Reflect.
Those are the ones I'm talking about. I went to get a whole stack appraised and got pitiful amounts of the one I needed.
I don't doubt that some people just don't bother, but there is definitely also a luck factor, especially when Delubrum is your only designated route of getting certain relic steps and needs an essence every time.

Fair point. Then again, when I start farming those I tend to get enough that I won't run out of them for like 10 sessions. Those are the ones I'm talking about. I went to get a whole stack appraised and got pitiful amounts of the one I needed.
