Allow us to test different races without using Fantasia

Can you allow us to try different races at our bed in the Inn? There has been so many times that I used a Fantasia and instantly regretted it after trying on all my various glamours. Then I don't want to blow another $10 instantly, and I tend to lose interest in logging in.

With cash shops or P2W methods. I am going to break alot of hearts, but FXIV is no exception.....

They want you to test, by buying, because they can get your money that way......And if you don't like the race, test out another.

The lengths some people go to be as Anti-QoL as possible. Devs want this game to last another 10 years then make this happen. Or is this game's engine just so gods awful they can't add a battle grunts button in the voice selector in the CC screen? If that's the case then here's to another 10 years of a trashy engine holding the game back.

As with most things in this game, we can show it's not a limitation with the game engine or anything like that because there exist third party tools that can do all this. Client side only obviously.

You can show it's not a limitation with the game by using tools that aren't part of the game and aren't supported by the developers? That's like saying this model kit I'm building should've had better paint from the factory because I can buy my own paints.

If you want to go with that analogy, it'd be more like if the model kit producers claimed they couldn't put better paint on the model because the plastic doesn't support it, but you can put better paint on without a problem.

To strain the analogy further: The factory doesn't use more paint because paint costs money and the company that owns the property won't pay for it, because the profit they make from selling the models is going towards other projects. The idea that they just plain can't is wrong, but improved quality requires financial investment from the higher-ups, and they don't really care.

You shouldn't have to make an alt to test something like voice that should be fully displayed in the character creation to begin with. This isn't even a fantasia issue at this point. A new person coming to the game isn't generally going to think "I should test these voices on throw away characters before I make my character". The character creation voice preview is BAD and should absolutely be improved. You shouldn't have to make a new character or look up out of game resources to test an INTEGRAL PART OF YOUR CHARACTER.

I agree the character creator could be improved. If the voice preview category were just the emote list that would be great. But I don't design video games and for all I know there's a technical reason why that isn't the case. Until the day that changes it's not difficult at all to accomplish the same thing by other means.

The average totally new player is probably level 10 or less within 24 hours. You also get a free fanta after ARR.

I see where you're coming from on the latter point but that would effectively be giving people a free fanta if they chose to abuse it by switching again at the last second. Yes you're buying the first one but not the second to change back into your original race or something else. You could make a justifiable argument that people should be able to do that anyway but that's money left on the table for SE and thus unlikely to ever happen.

I'm not disagreeing, but the "mods can do it so the devs are just lazy" argument still doesn't hold water.
