Yeah. That's not just against players new to this game, but players new to the FF franchise. I doubt they've even played much of the other games, given how much they like to inflate their standing here.

Anyone new to the franchise has no bias, so there's definitely more joy to be found in the experience. To fault them for enjoying it or dismissing opinions because of it is wrong and just shows him to be a miserable individual.

For WOW and FFXIV:

- An expansion that deals with cosmic threat and concludes a multi-expansion saga, has us flying in a spaceship into another planet/dimension at the end.
- An expansion before that dealing with an alternative timeline that has a bait-and-switch moment where the good guys almost won, but then Emet betrays you/Gul'dan subdues the Iron Horde and there is another mini-arc after that
- An expansion themed around Asia and focused on a war without an obvious large-scale threat(not front and center at least, both have one in the background)
- An expansion focused on dragons with a furious seething dragon as its primary antagonist(also bonus points for the similarities between shattering/7th calamity)

Is it poetry rhyming or "borrowing" concepts?
Is Gaius the Lich King?
Are we heading into FFXIV's BfA?

Hell if I know, but the parallels are fun.

You've played Square Enix games before? These are hallmarks of the SE brand; they're also common tropes so you'll find them frequently.

Pretty much everything in XIV is based on content from previous FF titles and other SE IP's. So, I dont think these parallels are borrowing or inspired by anything in particular but just traits of the brand and common tropes in general.

If not for the people you call "Karens" the race you play still wouldn't have hairstyles.

I could care less about hairstyles.

I played Hrothgar knowing full well there would only be limited face and only two hairstyles for each face. I get what I paid for. Anything else is extra

Also I'm not saying anyone who complains is Karen. I just don't buy " I complain because I care" s***t. There're all kinds of people in this world. Some people will complain just for the sake of it

Karens also claim they have good intentions because they CARE for you as they want only the BETTERMENT of your company and improve your company's PROFIT. Look, they even willing to spend time with your manager on discussing how they can achieve those. But we all know that isn't true

You know what's a good analogy for people using the "I complain because I care" excuse for heavily personally biased feedback?

Take any anime villian who does what they do because they believe what they're doing is for the betterment of the world when in reality it's only to fulfill their own selfish wants.

Thing is, it's very easy to tell when people spews this kind of feedback.

I have no stake in whatever discussion is going on ITT but I've always thought it was funny that both WoW 3.0 and XIV 3.0 were the ice expansion.
Also I'm surprised you didn't mention the very obvious parallels between A Realm Reborn and Cataclysm.

But isnt the setup of ARR heavily built around the concepts of FF6 and FF7? Like, sure you might be able to draw comparisons to WoW if you wanted to, but its pretty much a mishmash of FF6 and FF7 lore, so that would be the most obvious comparison and likely source.

I mean, if it had just been Dalamud crashing into Eorzea then sure, I can see them having plausible deniability and saying it was actually inspired by FFVII, but having Bahamut, a hulking dragon powered by his rage against humanity, popping out to go on a rampage that reshapes the landscape just like Deathwing did three years prior is a little -too- on the nose.
Of course ARR handled the concept far better than Cataclysm, but let's not deny the obvious inspiration here.

But, Bahamut coming along or being summoned to destroy everything is what Bahamut is in many FF games. This stuff is just as relevant to FF. I dont see a borrow from WoW, I see a very clear amalgamation of Final Fantasy concepts.

ARR is very strongly based on FF6 and 7, with a load of other general FF ideas thrown in for good measure.
