Not even true.
I mean sure, it's not alternative housing like many people expected but... it's anything but casual like it was advertised.
You start off grinding island resources and end off having to spreadsheet out profits for your workshop.
Except you don't have to do grind resources hardcore. You can just gather a little here and a little there as you want then build when you get enough.
You don't have to resort to spreadsheets to earn cowries from the workshop. You can make what you want and you'll still earn cowries.
You might have chosen to do those things but it's not a requirement that the content be played that way.
The content is very casual if you play it casually.

Broken down to specific elements you can see similarities anywhere but doesnt make it same or "barrowing concepts". Just my own 2 cents for what its worth. Personally from my toons perspective i would sort of hate to see a war between any combo of gardinia, uldah, limsa, or ishgard with all she "did" to bring together all the kingdoms but depending on how they do the story could be interesting. But again depending on the story dont make it BFA.

Heavens forbid I expect more engaging mmorpg elements that are aligned with the standard set by Ishgard restoration last expansion.
I’m quite firmly opposed to the frontloading of non-combat content but seriously, they need to do better than Island Sanctuary. Defend it all you like, those of us who see it for what it is are unmoved by your arguments.
This combined with a story that flew off the rails and has no direction anymore has left FFXIV in the worst state it’s been in since, arguably, 1.0.

You mean spend hours in diadem/buy mats off marketboard and then spend hours hitting a macro button to craft?
Like, island sanctuary is very light on content, its great for just chilling and roaming around.
And lol if you think this is the worst state the game has been in.
Would you believe people said the same thing back in 3.0? We had a 6 month gap between 3.0 and 3.1 and people said the devs were lazy and the game was dying and we were never getting new content again....
People have very very tinted glasses when it comes to previous expansions. Especially heavensward.

I was amazed about what little connection there was from Endwalker to previous plot points.
Wasn't Emet in Shadowbringers an Antagonist who actually did help us? Exactly the opposite of what you claim here? Or what do you mean?
Stormblood focused on the war and had both the Empire aswell as the typical summons. Zenos, the killer everybody seems to love, was introduced there and the main villian front and center. Idk what you need to qualify a "large-scale threat". Does it always need to be something weird that will only be stopped with the power of friendship?
I'm not into WoW. Do you put Heavensward with that Expansion where a dragon reformed the land or do you mean the upcoming dragonflight? Bonus points for the dragon of FFXIV and the shattering being not at all connected.
“You want to find the number 216 in the world, you will be able to find it everywhere. 216 steps from a mere street corner to your front door. 216 seconds you spend riding on the elevator. When your mind becomes obsessed with anything, you will filter everything else out and find that thing everywhere.” - From the movie "Pi"
Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless
I know that all of those stories are different in many more ways than they are similar, I simply found it a fun coincidence that these 4 expansions for WOW and FFXIV share these sometimes pretty key elements specifically in that order for both games.I was amazed about what little connection there was from Endwalker to previous plot points.

I suppose I should’ve said cosmic scale threat, and not large scale. That would be the ascians, Meteion, Burning Legion from WOW etc, both Pandaria and Stormblood lack that as focal point for the story.

There was quite a bit of info in the live letter about island sanctuary. But if you mean when they first announced island sanctuary at the fan fest or pre expansion intervies i grant you yeah there wasnt much details but that seems to be the case for new content either not wanting to spoil stuff or not wanting to promise this but not be able to deliver and we get something else. I like the content. Personally cant wait to see what more they add to it. I grant you island sanctuary isnt everyones style but in an mmo that has a variety of players people arent going to like some aspects over othersThis post is just such a piece of nonsense. Island Sanctuary was one of the least explained features they've ever rolled out. It was pretty much kept a complete mystery what it would entail until it actually launched, and then it was revealed to be hours of node clicking that somehow has less depth than open world gathering.
Where are all these people that love island sanctuary, outside of the forums? I don't know anyone in-game that actually thinks it's a good piece of content.
Personally it is my style of content, the problem is that there isn't much to do on the island right now. There was quite a bit of info in the live letter about island sanctuary. We need more ways to interact with the island.
Right now i can do everything i need to in 20 minutes on a tuesday and not have any reasons to go back for another week.
Except clicking on 3 mammets to get my ressources of the day and water my crops i don't have anything to do. I can do that in 3 minutes.
All i can do to pass time there is gather things. That isn't really engaging.
It needs some side activities making us actually maintain the island beyond setting the workshop for the week.
Even if it was small things like carrying object around, quick clicking mini games like in the gold saucer, or fishing even.
I hate to be there and having to leave because there's nothing to do but gather and wait.
If you want engagement, there's the whole rest of the game.
